My car is a 1998 C-280, with 20K miles onit. Just started to have problem with starting. When the smart key goes in, and is turned to start, the engine cranks for maybe a quarter of a second and then stops. It happened four times in a row, and then started as usual. In the last two days I had two episodes of this starting problem. Cranks for a split second several times in a row, then all of a sudden starts as usual. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you....RSL007

Try the other key. Have had problems with the transponders in the keys. If fixes, get the dealer to order you a replacement key.
