Unhappy High Gear Upshift Problem

I did something I wish I hadn't done. Last night I turned around in a rest area and when back on the road matted the accelerator, and when it went to shift into 2nd gear it acked like it was bouncing from low to 2nd two or three times before I let off. When I let off, it imeidiately went into 2nd and then to 3rd but would not shift into high. I then kicked the throttle making it downshift and let right back off and it will go into high. If I manually pull the shifter into 3rd you can feel it shift down and then push it back into drive it goes right back into high. However when you then come to a stop and have to start again from a stop the trans will not grab high again until you kick it down again. I also think it stays in each gear a little longer before it upshifts than it used to. Ever wish you hadn't done something? It kind of reminds me of a stuck kickdown linkage or governor on Chrysler products I'm used to. Help Please!!!

P.S. This is on my 1986 560SL
