Depending on the material your internal seals are made of. Most of these will cause the seals to swell, thereby increasing sealing efficiency, but drastically reducing life. Ther are no shortcuts in systems that work under pressure. If it needs resealing get it done before you fry a clutch pack or a band.

External leaks are a different story. Can be replaced w/o major overhaul. Rear seal, front seal pan gasket and the like.

Front seal requires removal of transmission. Rear yoke seal does not. (Generally speaking)

Do not make the same mistake I made. Take it to a certified MB shop.I have a 86 300E with a external leak, brought car to a legitimate tranny shop twice(obviously not in MBZ), and $600- later, still have a external leak. Looking for a Tech as we speak.
This is for Agron, the one you told me about in BKLYN. on 55th and Utica? Was told by a lifelong Benz owner, not to deal with him. I guess he had a few bad experiences, so I'm still looking. Thanks away... ------------------ 1986 300E W124 192,000 mi. tint windows clear corners euro headlights chrome lorinsers(now) soon to be 94/95 taillights [This message has been edited by rich30769 (edited 09-20-2000).] |

Benzman500:
Try to stay away from these tranny additives--it might be a quick fix, but in the long run your tranny will suffer even more. Try changing the fluid a couple of times, or bite the bullet and get it fixed. Rich: Sorry to hear about what you've heard, but i've had my car to this guy three times knowing myself what the problem was (thanks to MBshop) and he was on spot with the diagnosis all three times. My friend had also taken his former 1985 380SE with a moonroof problem--everyone he took it to told him he would need a new motor--big bucks!! Steve had the car, and the next day the moonroof was operating perfectly at a cost of $75. From my experience, this guy is on point with his ****, and he only works on MB's--not BMW's, Audi's, Lexus, etc... I know of another good mechanic in the brooklyn area that I've heard good things about, but I've never had my car taken there for service. Write me an e-mail and I should have the name and address of this shop--supposed to be a an experienced MB foreman in there, a Turkish gentleman. I'm sure you'll find a superior shop sooner or later, with an excellent MB mechanic that will take care of your needs, and your 300E. Maybe Yal can jump in here and name some good independent MB tech in the NY area. ------------------ Agron 1989 300E Monotoned Smoke Silver 97 Style Replica E420 Rims 205/55/16 Euro Headlights Clear Corners 20% Tint 12" Sub-enclosure |
