We are talking about a 1991 300D 2.5 Turbo w/ 185K miles. It was going down the road and "just died". No noises, but then the guy driving it is nearly deaf. (After eliminating all the easy stuff) I pulled all the injectors, put a 3ft "breaker bar" on the crank and could not turn it. At all. Now the problem is that nothing seems out of place!
It is not overdue for an oil change. Oil level is appropriate and does not smell burnt. Coolent level is appropriate. Timing chain is still there and appears tight. Overboost should be ruled out, as the overboost protection was all gone over two months ago and determined to have a tired spring in the wastegate and she wouldn't give you more than 9psi for anything in the world! (and the car was traveling a steady 45mph when she died) I have done all the service on this car personally since 30k miles, so I know it is not from lack of care. The only thing I can think is that the engine somehow dropped a freaking valve into a cylinder. Is it possible that the torque converter locked up?! I need suggestions and fast!! It is a beautiful car and would be a damn shame if it was f$*#@ed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone selling a "taps" trumpet?...... -Matt-
