M103 suppressor cover

I'm replacing my ignition wires as they look like they're the originals- should I do my suppressor cover too while I'm at it? Mine is cracked in the center and burnt.
Can anyone tell me what the cover actually does- is it just to keep dust and crap out of the distributor area?
and is it easy to replace? (I see the actual part is cheap, at only $15 or so).

cheers.

Suppressor Cover

Not hard to replace - did mine because it was cracked in a few places and thought it might smooth out idle (it did not, however).
