radio no power becker cassette 280se 4.5
I have a 1973 4.5 W108, It has a Becker Mexico Cassette, I don't think that came with this car. But it not working. I was going to put a new radio in it, I notice the power black wire had no power I think it should have power when the key is on so. still no power, I check the Fuse in the engine compartment on the firewall, I believe the first fuse for the radio and other stuff put a test light, I have power their with the key on. were can I trace this Wire. I have did a search on some threads still no help.

Radio Fuse- Models #612 and up have a fuse in the back
Pull the radio and check to see if the fuse in the back of the radio itself is blown. There is a small clear-plastic carrier that pulls straight out from the back of the radio with the fuse in it. Be careful pulling out the plastic carrier. They can be brittle and easily break. Replacement fuses can be sourced at Radio Shack.
Good luck Alex

Power for the Mexico Cassette will be via the cable to the amplifier behind the upper console cover. Remove the two screws that hold it on (one passenger side below the AC drain, one driver's side beside the gas pedal). the amplifier is bolted to a bracket behind the cover.
Fuse is in the wire there somewhere. The Mexico Cassette was an option in 73, I believe. Peter

I have found the problem. got the radio to work now. but the cassette doesn't work. so I decided to put a new radio in with cd, but the speakers wires goes to a box behind the console. left and front only. I have 4 speakers, Looks like the other wires are going to the fader on the dash knob. their was a loose wire behind the console don't know were it goes. it travel to the passenger side by the blower I think the blower works (ac). Need to get a New Antenna, And found out how to hook up the speakers.

Brand new Japanese CD player, outstanding sound with millions of tiny little buttons that nobody can figure out?
Bad news is that resale value on your classic 108 just dropped a few hundred dollars on account of this aftermarket improvement, understandable if you want great tunes. If nothing else, save the Becker Mexico system with all its fiddly bits in plastic bag....... Yes, it will add resale value to the car if you sell it exactly original and intact with radio knobs and face plate that match the console - irregardless of whether or not the tape player works. |

lousy mexico casette radio
I go rid of my Mexico long ago (1977)mdl. Had it repaired (cassette) by Becker for $150! A waste of money. Resale effect on car sale nothing! A new sony, plays better, no amp needed, and clear as a bell. Antenna set for lower position, pulls in all stations. Cost installed (cassette) $90!! try it you'll like it. Abe G
