The History Channel just ran an episode of their Automobile series on the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gull-Wing and later models. The program reviews the early history of MBZ and the strong sports/racing background. If you missed it hopefully it will be aired again in the near future. Keep an eye out. Good MBZ info.

Update
BTY a video tape of the program is available for purchase from the History Channel via their web site. I think it around $19.95 plus shipping. I checked their program listing for the balance of the month and the Mercedes-Benz program is not on the schedule. Next one listed is on the Ford Mustang. Hopefully the MBZ piece will air again in the future.
