That's the one. If the idle goes up, the valve is working. The more air allowed through the valve, the higher the idle. And it may solve the problem.

Well well well, the car cranks but doesnt start. I get fuel but no spark at all. Checked the coil and it works so i guess Ill change the cap and rotor. I havent done that since ive owned the car in 18 months.

Could that be my misfiring issue once the car is warm or is it completely different.

I do have a oxygen sensor and a computer because I have a frequency valve.

Don't think there is an 02 sensor on your car. '80 was the first year for the feedback setup from what I've seen and read.

Where are you moving in CA? Here is a nice one that popped up on fleabay recently http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4553841368&category=6331&sspagename=WDVW

I've been looking for a 450 forever, but I'm holding out for the perfect example- a '79, Navy blue over palomino. Mint.

the m117 FSM is available on w116.org.

I looked into it and I dont have an oxygen sensor or a lamda valve and pin 3 is not wired on the diagnostics socket.

Thanks for the car, I am looking for a mint 190 2.6 with a problematic engine so I can swap in either a 3.2 or a 3.6. Plans are based on the dtm version of the 190 so hopefully within a year it will be along those lines.

I checked the distributor cap and rotor on my car and it doesnt seem to work at all. There is spark from the coil but not after the rotor. The cap sparks when laid out on the engine but when put back into place it doesnt seem to conduct anything to the spark plugs. Also when the car is cranking without the cap in place the rotor seems to spin very very slowly. At around a turn a second, is that normal? Im hoping doing a cap and rotor should fix the starting issue.

When cranking the speed of your rotor sounds normal.

Thanks

Yup after all that headacke, the distributor cap and rotor solved the intermittent idle issue and oh my dear lord does it ever idle as smooth as a brand new car.

I should have done this a while ago when I replaced a faulty injector.

Thanks everyone for the tips, will keep them in mind.

No im gonna keep the suspense waiting.....

Yup tomorrow morning, hopefully everything goes as good as tonight and im gonna take it to work. I am a professional detailer so I will spend all the time in the world detailing my brand new car. By brand new I mean brand new, everything has been changed on it so far. About 3 hours of detailing on engine and interior and the chrome rims and then its the photoshoot. By tomorrow evening this forum will be in AWE.
