Darryl,H.
You can buy new unpainted hub caps (wheel covers)from one of the parts places in the Alanta,Ga. area for $28/each. The hub cap retaining clips(4/wheel) are $0.65/each. Check with the forum or call IPCO in Atlanta:1-800-635-8590. Bill Lewallen Lexington,Ky. The Bluegrass State; where diesels purr and turbos whirr. |

Darryl,
If you don't find the wheel covers at the place I told you about, let me know and I can give you some more places to check out. Painting them will not be the fun part. The masking them in preparation for painting is the fun part. Have fun. Bill Lewallen Lexington,Ky. Where diesels purr and turbos whirr. |

BTW, I have two sets of hubcaps, both are painted dark green. $40/set.

I have a couple ideas I wanted to try on mine, I'm still working on things that don't work not appearance items - yet. The biggest problem I'm guessing will be the arcs. I seem to remember my graphic artist brother in law using a liquid mask. I was going to try that and then use a set of dividers, (a compass with two points) to trim the arcs nice and round. The centre point would need to be really sharp or would need to go into some modelling clay or something. The star I would trim with a straight edge and a razor. I don't even know what the masking is calledI can ask tomorrow when I see him. I suppos the same trimming method would work with masking tape If you fastened a blade to the pencil end of a compass. Let me know what works best for you.

Don't you mean 14" wheel covers. Hub caps are about 2" in diameter.

In regards to painting the hub caps, I realized from experience that if you want a factory-like finish, apart from careful masking, many thin coats of topcoats will be needed to ensure no jaggy edges (due to thick overspray) when you remove the masking tape. Took me two weeks of careful preparation and painting and wett-sanding to achieve the finish I desired.
