That's almost as bad as the old 110 chassis that had astroturf instead of paint... Saw the guy at a car wash once -- there was soap and foam everywhere.

I like what they have done with their mechanical talents. However, they lack in curb appeal. Somebody's paint chips got messed up

holy 80s racer batman

Gotta agree with the original comment, that's just plain hideous. My father just finished his 1966 Nova SS (no, of course it's not stock), and it's not German, but it sure makes that thing look silly.

As for the comment about hard work and such going into this, put work into something worth working on, and I'm sure anyone trying to restore a car has more problems than this guy ever had. Buy a prefab chassis, bolt together some performance rat motor parts with a tranny and plop an SL shell on top. Add some horrific smattering of paint.......... Ok, it's not just throwing together an engine and such, and yes I'm very familiar with this kind of build, just think it belongs on an appropriate vehicle.

An old Chevy would look awesome like that... In a manly color.

But an MB should not have a supercharger sticking out the hood.

It is what it is ... a Pro-Street Drag car that is street legal. Why are you guys making such a big deal of it? Have ya looked around lately - R107s are a dime a dozen (at least in California).

Can't you appreciate the engineering that went into this car?

Think about - a R107 that can probably do a 1/4 mile in 10 seconds!

Enjoy it for what it is, and what it is not.

My $0.02.

Norman, exactly! I've been to the biggest and best cars shows/race tracks/street Rod & Custom events over the last forty years or so. I don't recall ever seeing a Mercedes in this kind of trim. I have , however, seen, worked on, driven, about all the '66 Novas I care too. Anyone that discounts the work involved, does not get taken seriously. At least by me. Steven Jr, I've restored some pretty nice cars. Reggie Jackson owns a '65 427 Corvette that I had a major roll in, to name one. This type of ProStreet car is meant to grab your attention, and force you to remember it. The color you choose is designed to do just that. Find me an OEM Mercedes color that is anything but boring, really.

If you read my post, that's about what I said. I know that it takes a numbingly insane amount of work to finish a GOOD car. If you're as experienced as you tout, you'll admit that that car was done quickly and cheaply. If you tell me that interior was done any way other than cheaply and quickly then I couldn't care less who owns one of your former cars (I'm hoping you don't have to take that wrong). Please understand I'm not insulting legitimate restorations, or modification that, as I stated before, fits the car.

If you want to do something to a Mercedes, build a German Engine for it that'll crank out lots of power with a couple turbos, a rock solid bottom end, aftermarket injection, etc. Add to that HI QUALITY body and interior modification if you need, etc. Yeah, you can do that and have a car that'll pull 10s. That, my friend, would grab your attention if you came against it on the street.

On a different note, I'd like to see that Vette, and I'm sorry if you don't like '66 Novas. The next project will either be a 69 Firebird (400, tach in hood, etc), or the completion of the 70 Camaro that is in progress now. I appreciate both sides of the line mind you, but there are 2 sides.

I disagree. The core of Hot Rodding, which IMHO the R107 was hotrodded to a degree, is to put a trick go-fast engine in an older car chassis that goes pretty darn quick in a straight line. Having a non-MB engine installed in the SL is the same as having a small block Chevy in a Ford '32 Duece Coupe/Roadster - everyone does it!

Now, putting a non-MB engine into a prestine/concours chassis would not be correct, but this SL is a Pro-Street Drag car, not a resto job. Can't we have some fun once in a while?

Steve, I "like" Novas. I just find them boring. Camaros, Corvettes, etc. I've spent an awfull lot of time on that side of the line. Now two supercharged AMG V12's in an offshore boat may pique my interest.
