67' 230s Universal Wagon

I love these things! Bill is a good guy and he owns a hard-to-find MB parts shop in Ca. He said he would take around $14-16k for it. I would sleep in that thing if I owned it. I love these things and they are so hard to find. Check it out!

I have no idea! Where did you see that? I have e-mailed this guy and participated on another board with him for 4 yrs and never heard about an accident. Hmmm. If you remember let me know.

That's Bill's car.

He was indeed in an accident and the car was fixed impeccibly. Anybody that has visited the veteran's site knows bill and that car well. Check out the archives. You will not find a better example of a great, rare car.

The veteran's list archives has it all laid out to see...

It starts here: mblist.mercedes-veterans.com/archive/1999/Dec/mblist_Volume:_1_Number:_2202.txt

The next few archives have posts from the guys on the list expressing sympathy.

Thanks to #2223, you can find the original crash pics: http://viewimages.mbz.org/by_owner/Wachsmuth/

Then there's the detail on getting the car back on the road: http://mblist.mercedes-veterans.com/archive/2000/Apr/mblist_Volume:_1_Number:_2624.txt

Then there's a little side bit about fixing the A/C: http://mblist.mercedes-veterans.com/archive/2000/May/mblist_Volume:_1_Number:_2749.txt

There are more. The above references took about 10 minutes to collect.

Joe,

Well, after sending the last post, I emailed Bill to let him know why his ears were ringing. Here are his two replies...

Quote:
Oh yes, and about the accident-
I have always been very public about it, and all of the bidders knew about
it. I didn't mention it in the listing because I decided that it was not
material, as it had been fixed, and because even though it looks awful, the
damage was actually minor- jsut sheet metal and the radiator and AC which
was all replaced. Because I hit a minivan broadside, it missed the bumper,
and therefore missed the frame. They put the car on one of those laser
things alignment things to check and everything was as it should have been.
Of course, you look at the accident picctures and can't believe it but its
true. When the car was fixed I even reused the original bumper overriders-
one has marks from the bumperette wacking it, but that's all. The "crumple
zone" worked like it was supposed to. That and the side of a minivan is
terrifically soft as the are frameless- I bent that minivan in half.
Quote:
Oh how funny.
BTW I did sell it last week- to a nice man in Belgium, 30 minutes from the
factory.
Got what I wanted but not sure I got what she was worth to my wife ;-)
So a nice guy in Belgium with lots more money than I do now has a really nice car.

Yeah, I know. He e-mailed me this morning about it. I am a little disappointed, but as always I drag my feet about things because I am so indecisive. I hope he got want he wanted for it. It sure was a nice car. I would have loved to had it. After looking at all the info on the accident I feel it was probably fixed right. Oh well, not for me this time.

later,
