I'd just get a new fuel pump. They're relatively cheap and quite easy to replace.

With shipping and the conversion to Canadian I'm probably looking at $400. But really its more about trying to keep the dirty original equipment where it belongs. I'm fully aware that I'll probably end up there though LOL.

Are there any Canadian vendors for Mercedes parts? Or is the free shipping U. S. only? That seems like a surprising amount to have to pay!
Edit: I found one on Canadian E-bay for $48 Canadian, free shipping: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/MERCEDES-180A-180B-180C-190-190B-220S-220-230-230S-250S-280S-NEW-FUEL-PUMP/142871972945?hash=item2143d54c51%3Ag%3AoF4AAOSw42JZDH85&_sop=15&_pgn=3&_sacat=0&_nkw=mercedes+230S+fuel+pump&_from=R40&rt=nc |

Mercedes told me that the replacement pump THEY provide attaches straight to the engine block, not to the standoff that is on there OEM and that it omits the lever. How did yours attach? EDIT - the second link isn't the same design. I wonder if that is what Mercedes Classic is selling (for $98). This is where some experience would really pay off, as I can't confirm with photos what will or won't work. |

I owned a 1967 230S some years ago. Great car. It should have dual Zenith 35/40 INAT or JNAT carbs which require a little synchronizing of the rods connecting them, but this is a minor adjustment.

I continued this thread to discuss a more recent problem as I already had the attention of some very knowledgeable folks. In retrospect it's a little misleading. But thanks so much for the assistance! |

It didn't look exactly like the one that was in the car before, but it seems to work fine. It was an easy hook-up and replacement that took about five to ten minutes. I think that all the M180-series engines (from the pontons through the W114s, etc.) have the same fuel-pump hook-up on the block despite some variation in the pump appearance. |
