Badges and keys and the things i forget to ask when i'm able to get online
So my 1970 W114 paperwork from MB states its a "250C". The badge on the back of the trunk lid says "250". What happened? It's original...right down to the grime peering out on the sides of it.
Another thing: I have 2 keys. One is black Plastic (I think) around the big end and the other key is metal. They both work in the ignition and i can't remember if they work on the glove box (i'll try it later..this is what happens when you near the half century mark!). Was there a separate one for the glove box? I didn't have a lockable gas cap that said Mercedes or the Star symbol either. Did they normally come with lockable gas cap? Thanks again! |

As someone else posted, if your car has 2 doors it's a 250C and if it has 4 doors it's a 250. |

You sure it's the original? It may look old but not be original. The originals were often attempted to be ripped off, just like the hood ornaments. Someone probably just replaced it with the closest one they could find easily. Also, if someone did try to take it off, the "C" might have snapped off the end, leaving the rest. I've seen 280SE/L (missing the SE / SEL) and 300SEL like that.

Yep she's an original. I was thinking it was replacement badge too. I think when I have the body work done I'll have the correct badging put on it and keep the old one for posterity sakes. |

Genuine M-B lockable fuel tank caps must have been an option back in the day before the outer doors were tied in with the central locking system. I've got one on the '74, one I found on a U-Pull W115 a while back. When locked the cap just spins. On W114 and W115 access to the fuel cap is not part of the vacuum central locking system - It's just a door that flips open with no provision for locking.
