Hi
Just wondering if anyone has experience with the Yokohama AVS DBs and if so, how you liked them? I am comparing them to Michelin XGT Z4s. Thanks farrukh |

TireRack has a test comparison between those precise tires (might have been the V4, not the Z4) and a Pirelli. Yoko's were great. I just talked my next door neighbor into putting some on his Mitsubishi Galant--he loves them. --Mitch

AVS DB's are the quietest tires I have driven on. They also perform pretty nicely

Get Some!
I have them and they are dead quiet! I replaced the noisiest tires in the world, the Pirelli 7000 SuperSport and never looked back. The handling is a lot better also. Can't wait to take off my Michelin winter meats and put my AVS dB back on for the spring/summer/fall.

AVS DB on 210
I've had a set of the AVS db on a 2000 E-320 for about a month and have been very happy with them. They replace a set of Michelin Pilot XGT V4's which were fairly undistinguished in terms of performance and hideously noisy on certain kinds of pavement. Mercedes cars have never been well insulated from road noise, and the absolute lack of mechanical and wind noise in the 210 makes tire noise very apparent.
The 210 cars have overly-sensitive, overly-light steering at high speeds and the Yokohams complement this nicely: the car tracks well at high speeds without the "squirreling" that I found with the original MXV-4's (terrible tires!) or the XGT V-4s. The dry adhesion of the db's feels on a par with the XGT's, but the noise level and ride quality are vastly improved. At the limits of adhesion, the db's are more gradual than the XGT's and provide better information. The steering response of the db's is good, but not quite as crisp as the XGT's, which is why the car tracks better at high speeds. I haven't used the tires in the wet yet, and I suspect the snow performance is fairly poor. All in all, I recommend these tires highly. They are not an all-out performance tire like the Michelin Sport or AVS Sport, but I think they are an excellent compromise on a sedan like this. |
