sub wiring question

can u wire a 2 channel amp to one dvc sub. i mean 1 channel to each coil? i have not seen a set up like this before, all i've worked with was 2/8 ohm wiring set up out of a dvc sub, but i only want one sub for this car.

Hi Ned.

It all depends on the resistance of the
amp(2ohm or 4ohm stable) and the
subwoofer(4ohm or 2ohm dvc).

Go to this link http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-GQQawc1YgHU/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_dual.html
click wiring diagrams on the right of the page.

Hope this helps.

Louis.

basically i have (or getting) a 40x4, 100x2 at 4 ohm amp. i want 1 sub which is a DVC 4 ohm. i want to wire each of the 100x2 channel to a 4 ohm voice coil. can this be done? also do i need to somehow make it mono instead of stereo? thanks again

Hi Ned.

Surely this can be done.
Just hook one output channel to each
voice coil and this will give you 4ohms.

As for the mono/stereo question.
Since bass is non directional,it is not that important.

More important is that you have a good cross-over
that will send the correct signal to the sub(amp)
If your amp has a low pass X-over build in then you
can use that one.
Some HU's have one to,this way the you can use that
one and send low pass signals to your amp.

If the amp or HU does not have one then you
will have to buy one.

thanks for helping me with the question i had. the reason i am worried is that becuase someone on a car audio forum did not advice me to do this becuase he said that if the amp was running stereo it might at one point send signal to only 1 voice coil, and the other one will just be sitting there affecting the sound. does this make any sense to you? i suppose if i make sure the amp has a mono mode it can be done without me worrying. thanks again for your advices.

No,not really.

If this really was the case than all those installs
that I have seen in magazines and at shows
would all be wrong.

So I don't think that it will affect the operation
of your sub.

Anyone having a different opinion or if I'm wrong
please feel free to correct me.

Louis.
