how do you remove wax and meg show car glaze?

I clayed, used meguires show car glaze, and then waxed. After taking it out in the sun i completely hated how the show car glaze looked on it. It left streaks and fine lines. Maybe because of how i put it on and took it off? I just don't like it...how can i remove the wax and the glaze and start over on the hood?

Washing the car with Dawn dish soap will safely strip your car of all waxes and polish.

Dawn is different than other dish soaps in that it is very mild and alkaline.

Will do.

Has anyone else experienced this streaky finish using the product?

What do you guys use?

I clayed, then use the show car glaze, then waxed.

What do you guys do after claying?

I use much the same process as you, but in between the clay and the Show Car Glaze I apply a paint cleaner (sometimes Meguiar's Body Scrub, sometimes their Deep Crystal System cleaner - either one works well). I think the Glaze is easier to buff off if it's been applied to paint that's been treated with a cleaner first. The key to applying glazes and waxes is making sure the paint is as prepared to recieve them as possible - paint cleaner helps to make sure the surface of the paint is in good shape and ready for a polish or wax. You might want to try it.

when you apply the show car glaze, how long do you let it sit? Do you let it dry to a haze? And how hard to you buff it off? How thick of a layer do you put on?

The key to applying polish/wax is to put as thin a layer as possible, if it's too thick you'll have problems with streaking.

Read the instructions, most waxes will tell you if it needs drying time or if it can be removed immediately.

I personally use S100 Polish/Wax but Meguiars Gold Class also looks very good on the Pearl Black.

When removing Polish/Wax microfibers make it much easier. Also you might want to try a Quick Detailer after waxing, it will help create a uniform layer of wax and reduce/eliminate streaking.

I just applied show car glaze to my car this weekend and then applied Gold Finish wax. The results were amazing. My wife loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applied the glaze two panels at a time by hand. Note I did no rubbing at this step. By the time both panels had the glaze on them the first panel was ready to be buffed off. I used a machine as I am very lazy in my old age. I also believe no one can do repetitive work as well as a machine.

When the car was polished I went back with the Gold Class liquid wax and applied it to the entire car. I ate dinner, that was very important, and then buffed the wax off with a machine.

It is important to apply both of these products to a clean cool surface and try to do the work in the shade. A lot of people make the mistake of trying to apply wax etc to hot surfaces, not a good idea.

Have a great day

Have i not been letting my Meguires #26 Wax sit long enough? I'd say I'd apply it to the section, and then wipe it off within 5 minutes or so. When i took it off it always seemed a little damp still, it wasn't flakey like other products i had used. You let it sit while you eat dinner? Thats a big difference. Let me know, thanks!

I'd say that if the wax is still damp, then you're removing it far too quickly. Attempts at removing wax before it has completely dried will only result in spreading more wax on the surface rather than removing it. I tend to let mine sit considerably longer than five minutes - if it's still damp or streaks in places, I don't touch it and let it dry longer. It should be completely dry and powdery as you buff it off.

Everyone,

Letting wax dry is only partially correct. When dealing with Meguiars you're correct, they come off much easier if they're allowed to dry for 30 mintues or a bit longer.

But there are other waxes that should not be left to dry. Case in point, the stuff I use (S100) should only be applied one panel at a time for the polish and the wax and should be removed immediately before it dries. I know a few other products that are the same.

That's why it's always best to see what the manufacturer recommends for that particular wax.

Yeah, because before meguires, the wax i used to use would come off in like 5 minutes nicely. I guess i hadn't realized you're supposed to let the meguires sit for so long. I will let it sit for a while tonight and see how it is.

As for the show room glaze, only let it sit about 5-10 minutes or so? Thanks guys, appreciate the responses.

When I used to use the Zymol wax that you can buy from your local shop, not the really expensive stuff, it didn't like being left on for very long.

Now that I've used the Meguiar's Step 2 (polish) and Step 3 (wax), it doesn't mind being left on for a long period of time. I'd like to try the show car glaze just to see what it does.

Along time ago, I read that one should never buy a wax/polish that had petroleum distillates in it. Now I always look for a product that has as little warnings on the label as possible.

Hope it doesn't rain this weekend.

I called Meguiar's and asked about removing wax with Dawn and was told NEVER use dish soap on your car under any circumstances. Your best bet is to give them a call and explain your problem

I have attended a full day training seminar at Meguiar's head office, and was told that, in fact, Meguiar's products cannot be "layered" like other products that recommend layering successive coats, like Zaino.

The reason is that Meguiar's waxes contain polish in them, which obliterates the preceding coat.

Thus, in the same way, applying a coat of polish over a coat of wax will remove the layer of wax.
