Oil Leak - it's bugging me!

I don't think it is a serious problem but I’m anal (or so I’ve been told) in keeping the engine compartment relatively clean. In between cleaning there appears to be a small oil leak coming from somewhere that accumulates on top of the vacuum pump housing. Would anyone know the source of this oil leak so I can fix it?

Thank you for your time.

I think it would be the valve cover gasket.

Would be my first guess, but.....

The through-bolt (more like a pin) for the time chain slide may have been installed without sealer on it and will seep out right above the vac pump. If it's not the valve cover gasket, check that (might have to remove it just far enough to spray with carb cleaner, slop with perma 2 or ultra black RTV and re-install.)

I think I read in another post that you are using Petro Canada's 5W-40. This oil made my 617 leak from the front and rear main seals, turbo return, and oil pan. I switched to Pennzoil Long Life and all of the leaks have stopped except I get about one drop per week on the driveway from the oil pan. I think Duron is a very good oil but it wants to escape. My consumption was about 400% greater using Duron 5W-40.

I've just switched (200 km. ago, for the first time) to the Duron and I've had this problem before so I don't think it is the source (fingers crossed).

I will replace the valve cover gasket next valve adjustment and see.

Where exactly is this located and what does it look like? Would I need any special tool?

Just a thought, but I found that the valve cover had distorted on my 300cd after years of torquing down the hold-down bolts, compromising the seal with the head. I took a little metal off at a couple of the mounting tabs and the seal got much better.
