Crusher Alert! '83 300SD just totalled, in NJ
I'm writing this from the Kenilworth Inn in NJ since my beloved 300SD was just wrecked on the GSP. With the sun in my eyes, I stopped about 1 ft too late to avoid the Buick Rendevous in front of me. My bumper went under hers, she had no damage, my radiator was pushed back onto the motor.
The car was passed down to me from my father, currently it has 269k on it. Motor has always been strong, and I've done regular oil changes (mann filters) and valve adjustments. It had a new transmission at 150k or so, one other collision at 226 (new hood, fender, & bumper). Body has rust, but undercarriage is pretty clean since it used to be quite leaky until I replaced some seals. I just did the rear subframe bushings, diff mount and four new KYB shocks. It has bunt cake rims in fair shape with toyo tires (installed about 10k ago, fronts are feathered from bad alignment). To get it back on the road would take a hood, fender, lights, radiator support, and maybe some other inner sheet metal that I can't see. It's more than I have the facilities to do. I'd like to sell it for $600 to diesel benz fan in NJ. Plan B is drag it home this weekend and ebay useful parts and take the body to the crusher

Hey, thanks anyway. Just wasn't my day today. I called a friend to get my Audi 4000CS to come pick me up, and we had a caliper seize up on the way back.
Speaking of brakes, here's a point of irony for the wreck: I knew my rear brakes had worn down and were uneven with rust on the rotors and I had ordered all new brakes. The UPS man delivered to the wrong address, and I didn't get the package in time to get the brakes done before the trip. So now there's a wrecked benz in NJ and a shiny new set of brakes in my living room. ![]()

Part that sucker out! If you have the time I would part it out. I made some $$ on the one I parted out last year.
What color is the interior?

Grey interior with anthracite (gunmetal!
![]() The easiest thing about parting it will be the new parts I hadn't installed yet, like the driver's seat sitting in my living room.

I'm interested in some parts too....mainly body parts. Like a passenger rear door perhaps...and the little trim piece behind that. Even just the two trim pieces....(the one on the door and the little one behind it)...I'd pay to get those, then I could make my car look a lot nicer.....

CRUSHERS are the best. I took 4 cannibalized 123's to the crusher last year. I'd pay to watch that machine come down out of the sky and grab the car by the roof.....but instead, they paid me. I averaged $150-200 per car
Sorry to hear about yours however. Our nicest body 123 was totalled as well. bummer dp

I have no problem watching a chevy cavalier get flattened, but man.. not a MB. Do you remember that commercial Mercedes ran a couple years back, "Rebirth", "Reincarnation" or something?
The one where the car's life flashes before its eyes as it hits the crusher, you see through the windshield as the proud new owners take delivery, their first kid, M&M's getting spilled across the dash, the kid's prom, etc. I cry.. no, really. I'll have to see what's salvageable when I get it home.
