Oil pan 84 300D turbo

I am trying to get to the bottom of some of my oil leaks on my car. I am going to start with a new pan gasket that has been leaking for some time my question is do you put any kind of sealant on the gasket or just grease it before you put it on. Thanks

No sealant is used. I don't remember the bolt torque specs, but it's lighter than you might think. Somebody on here will know the spec.

I have just rooted out all of my engine leaks. The first one was coming from where I thought was my oil pan gasket. Once I replaced that it still leaked and at that point noticed it was actually coming out of my front crank shaft seal.

You might also want to check to make sure the vacuum pump seal is still good.
If it leaks out of the bottom it is impossible to see and drips off the engine looking like a leaky oil pan.

I'm doing the same thing...

I just bought a new Oil Pan Gasket, and I plan on changing it out next time I do an oil change.

One other place that you can check that was creating a mess in the front of my engine (before I fixed it) was the tube and connections that go from the valve cover to the Oil Separator (a filthy black beer-can shaped plastic device in front of and slightly to the right of the air cleaner).

Another leak was the side of the transmission (mine is a 4 speed). There is a plate on the drivers side that you can see when you're under the car. It leaks if the bolts are loose...

Hope this helps you.

- Patrick
