My dad had it in his care and forgot to torque down a drain plug following recent oil change. While I was cruising down the freeway I payed no attention to the oil pressure gauge. Plug fell out, oil was lost. The car came down to a stop. I estimate the motor ran dry for about five minutes. It will start with a moderate pinging and while cold will maintain oil press. But once warm, pressure drops to nil, noise increases considerably untill it just dies. Turbo spins freely.
Do I need a new engine, or can a new oil pump be the fix? |

Sorry, but I feel quite sure it's short block time.
Best of luck, |

I have to agree with Larry. It is probably "toast". Here is a site with some MB recylers. http://www.mbz.org/commerce/parts/recycled/ I have been told that Atlanta or Potomac are both OK, if you are the east coast. Good luck, Jay.

Igor,
Sorry to hear of your situation. I have used one of the vendors on the list mentioned in Jay's post above, their name is Atlanta Stuttgart. I bought an engine for my 1983 240d from Atl. Stuttgart back in 1994, this engine is still in excellent shape and running strong today. These are good honest people, and they ship parts nationwide. Ken Yancey
