Does anyone know which part number goes with the clear return fuel line to the filter from the primer on a '80 300TD 917.912 engine. Mine seems to be leaking and needs replacement. I also would like P/N for the metal seal on top of the spin on fuel filter bolt and injector return braided hose. Parts shop numbers please!

First, there is some confusion when it comes to 300 series diesels. There is a 300D, which is a "turbo diesel" sedan, which some people incorrectly terer to as a 300TD, and there is a 300TD, which is the wagon. Which do you have?

Also, all "PartsShop numbers" are Mercedes parts numbers.

You can click on "FastLane" select the "online catalog" and enter the information for your car. Then select the fuel delivery system category, and get the part numbers by selecting the specific part, and then clicking on "BUY". It will seem like nothing happened, but the part number screen is the one in the background, not the foreground. You also will get a price...

I don't really understand what you mean by, "P/N for the metal seal on top of the spin on fuel filter bolt, but I think the others might be:617-078-00-81 Diesel Return Hose 29cm length, & 615-476-03-26 Diesel Fuel Hose 3.2mm Idx1.9 Wall for Diesel Injectors. Check to be sure.

Greetings Scott,

I've got the 300TD station wagon. The fuel lines are the leak downs from injector to injector and also the one from primer pump to filter (this one is clear on my car) seems stiff as well. Is it suppose to be somewhat pliable? The fuel filter bolt sealing ring is the metal washer between the spin on fuel filter bolt and the top of the filter housing. I assume is does some type of fuel leakage control.

I just changed one of my hoses... I don't think I used the right stuff though because the original stuff had numbers on the hose and this one doesn't... plus it seems like the original hose is stiffer... maybe too stiff.

It was hell getting the old hose off and I really haven't gotten the new one on all they way yet. I have a total of 3 clear hoses (all brown) that connect to the fuel filter housing and one small threaded hose. Shoot I wouldn't mind replacing all of them... Does anyone have tricks for getting these darn things off? Mine wasn't changed probably since 1981 and they suctioned on there really good.

I believe the copper sealing ring is called hollow bolt ring. It is .06 all the way up to .77 cents.

The braided fuel hose which goes from injector to injector is mercedes part no: 615 476 03 26 (3.2mm Idx1.9)
It is usually sold by the meter. The easiest way to remove it is to cut it off with a razor blade. To install it, you have to be persistent and just keep pushing. I use a blunt instrument to encourage it, making sure not to damage the hose.

Some other part no.s I found for a 1980 300TD regarding fuel hose are:

First, SB, you can get most part numbers by following the instructions for using FastLane that I posted, and '79 Super Turtle was kind enough to elaborate. If they don't happen to have a part listed, I get them from the dealer or a competing site, and then advise our webmaster so he can update FastLane.

Now, to get the hoses off and on, I agree, carefully use a sharp knife to cut the suckers off, then, you could try a little motor oil to get them to slide on, or gently soften the ends with a hair dryer, and slip them on while they're still soft and warm. I wouldn't recommend doing that with a gas line, but there shouldn't be any danger with diesel if you're careful and do it gradually...

When I did this same job on my 1977 240D, I cut the old clear tube carefully--much like removing a radiator hose--and softened the new plastic tube by dipping it in very hot water to flex it up. Fit easily then.
