Thumbs up Texas '77 300D

It appears to be a clean little car -but- the enthusiasts for these NA cars are all long gone, this one if not drastically reduced in price will be crusher fodder ere long .

'ran out of fuel and towed home' ~ yeah, maybe but also could be one more thrashed to death or timing chain snapped etc. pig in a poke deal.....

I too think it looks like a builder but.....

Post New Jersy 190D

I remember the hoi polloi hating these when new, I rode in one a few times and it was nice but *very* cramped ~ I only have a 32" inseam so that means it really is snug inside .

Oh MY, this is a beauty

Looks beautiful. a few things bother me though (Not My ad or Car)

1. The odometer broke when I hit the trip reset while rolling, so the mileage is showing about 10k lower than it should

2. The wagon gets about 35 mpg to start.

3. It has a SVO/WVO single-tank conversion which I have not tested and used

I don't know how hard this would be to correct, but $6000 (or $4000 with a little negotiation?) seems decent for something that new...even if the guy drove it like a douchebag snowboarder.

Depends what you want out of it. Replace the transfer case and go might make it a deal. You might as well buy a more loved one instead of having the dents professionally repaired - $10K buys this - https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ctd/d/2007-mercedes-benz-class-320/6541299348.html .

A buddy ended up stuck with one of these from after they had their 3rd kid. The repair costs got so out of control they basically parked it in his driveway for a few months. He tried to give it to me and a few other for FREE and there were no takers. Eventually it went to the JY. It had around 110k miles. It's one of the biggest pieces of **** Mercedes ever produced.

The S140 must have been a terrible car ~ the California junkyards are littered with them, almost every one with shiny paint and perfect upholstery....

I'd argue they're great pieces of automotive luxury if you can find one that's been properly maintained. The W140 as we all know is a more complex vehicle to work on than the W126, so it'll be more pricey to take to an auto shop, and more time consuming for the diy'er . Almost across the board, parts are more expensive for the 140, and it needs more maintenance. The only benefit to such woes listed from a W140 is that it does everything a W126 can do, but better.

Personally I'd love a 140 chassis. Even if it is less reliable and more expensive. It's essentially the last "true' Mercedes.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.
