A buddy ended up stuck with one of these from after they had their 3rd kid. The repair costs got so out of control they basically parked it in his driveway for a few months. He tried to give it to me and a few other for FREE and there were no takers. Eventually it went to the JY. It had around 110k miles. It's one of the biggest pieces of **** Mercedes ever produced.

Ad has been sitting around for a long time, price has even dropped hehe

Has the Mercedes shake syndrome over 55mph, so a steering and suspension build could be knocking on your door soon.

The R models were just Chrysler Pacificas with more expensive repair bills.

The S140 must have been a terrible car ~ the California junkyards are littered with them, almost every one with shiny paint and perfect upholstery....

Good to know -- I never had even heard of them.

Ohh Nevermind I see what the r class is... I kinda like those a little bit, but maybe that's just because I don't see too many of them.

Are they a bad Benz or are u just saying they aren't your style? @ the guy who called it a Chrysler Pacifica

I too have heard of many of them with problems. They are actually selling for fairly low $ compared to other models of the same vintage (E class etc). I have heard that the beginning of the Diamler-Chrysler era, the Chrysler product got better, and the Mercedes-Benz product worsened. Before I got my first CDI, I looked into an R class Diesel. I think they are cool looking, but I have no need for all wheel drive and the problems associated with that system. I could have gotten a beautiful R320 with low miles (80,000 or less) for what I would have paid for a CDI with 150+thousand miles. The AWD and bad rap turned me off.....Rich

Wasted two hours to look at this car while on my vacation. Only contact is email. Asked for a number to contact. Wouldn’t give me one. Gave my number. Wouldn’t call me. Finally got an address. Said any time was fine. Drove an hour to see it. No one home. No replies to email. Car was there. I went with cash in hand. What a deadbeat!

I'd argue they're great pieces of automotive luxury if you can find one that's been properly maintained. The W140 as we all know is a more complex vehicle to work on than the W126, so it'll be more pricey to take to an auto shop, and more time consuming for the diy'er . Almost across the board, parts are more expensive for the 140, and it needs more maintenance. The only benefit to such woes listed from a W140 is that it does everything a W126 can do, but better.

Personally I'd love a 140 chassis. Even if it is less reliable and more expensive. It's essentially the last "true' Mercedes.

Oilslick, I seen that W124 on the cgl too. But how he describes his vehicle in the add makes it seem like he isn't motivated to sell it tbh

Rare Vintage 1985 Mercedes 300TD Station Wagon/2nd owner - $2450 (santa cruz)

“The Car that will Never Die"

We are selling our rare Mercedes 300TD Station Wagon. We love this car, but our parking situation is tight and we don't have a place to keep it. We are the second owners, and have all of the service records (thick as a book) from the original owners. You can see from the pics that it has been well cared for. Take a look at the leather seats! Still almost perfect. The engine runs like a champ, transmission is strong, it starts right up. These are rare but when you see them, they usually have 300k miles on them. This car has only 198k miles! That's an average of only 6k per year.

Dependable, collectible, reliable, and convertible to biodiesel/vegetable oil.

Bloomberg magazine says "Buy a Vintage Mercedes Station Wagon Because It's the Car That Will Never Die."

"You cannot kill them," Phil Skinner, Kelley Blue Book's collector car market editor, said recently. "They just keep on running. It's Mercedes technology--and on a station wagon! It's the perfect combination...If you're looking to buy, look for something with the fewest miles possible and an extensive service record. Assuming the mechanics are sound, you can follow routine preventive maintenance and expect to get hundreds of thousands of miles out of these puppies. He has even seen taxi drivers in Europe with more than a million miles on theirs."

There will be some routine maintenance coming up, but nothing that can't be done over time. Someone recently stole the radio antenna and the hood ornament, but these are easy to replace. This wagon drives and runs perfectly. We ended up letting the registration expire since we weren't driving it, but it will be easy to register. And there's no doubt it will pass smog inspection again. The car has never been in an accident and the title is clean.

These cars have become very desirable and are increasing in value. This car is a great opportunity to buy a driver and use as is or improve and sell for a higher price when you get tired.
