Ugh... it looks nice on the outside, but that engine looks like it was NEVER cleaned. You can bet that the maintenance has been severely neglected.

Based on the condition of the driver seat cover, that towel on the back seat must be to keep their dog clean.

Solid parts car, or solid money pit. I'd take it for 1 grand.

That's a really nice one .

I can't see $6K for a W116 but then I never liked those anyway, foolishly turned down a pristine free one in the middle of the Diesel rage .

I took a wheel or two and the floor mats, dragged it in front of a fire hydrant and called the cops ~ it was gone in 20 minutes .

As a W116 enthusiast, that makes me really sad. Also, it seemed like every time I found a nice W116 300SD for sale in the color I wanted, it was always priced over $6,000. So, I eventually bought a $1,000 example that was totally trashed and have been daily driving it for 7 years.

For a very brave MB diesel enthusiast, 1987 300TD wagon for $700. Get ready to cover your eyes:
https://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/d/diesel-1987-mercedes-300td/6456186646.html

At least the price is somewhere in the correct ball-park.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).

Glad you love it, many do .

@ $6K you didn't look very hard, I see decent ones in the L.A. junkyards because they're so hard to sell .

Finding that *special* color can be a real pain, I feel for you there .

Price is right for someone willing to put some work into it. I'm sure there is plenty hidden but looks like it's all there and would clean up fine. If I was 10 years younger..........
