Rocker tower bolts

I decided to replace the valve stem seals.

I guess the socket head cap screws holding the rocker towers require a 9MM hex wrench?
Why would they use a size that isn't included in the typical set? 10? Fine. 8? Okay. But 9?

When I get home again, does anyone know where I can order these on-line? Maybe a socket-bit set that includes a 9MM?

Thanks

Okay, THANKS FOR THE CAPS!

And the answer I was looking for is... they're 12 point star bolts.
Couldn't see that while they were full of oil.

And we don't have a JC Whitney or Autozone around here.

Sorry about the attitude, it's just that I'm sick of this place where everything is a struggle.
The prevailing attitude here is, "Why ya need a metric bolt? Just stick a nail in it and bend it over. Get 'er done."

Are you sure that they are Torx?

I seem to recall that they might take a 12 point metric bit???

I am about to set out on the obligatory and futile 3 hour hunt for metric parts in this BS town the the ********* of the USA, West Virginia.

When I get home again, does anyone know where I can order these on-line? Maybe a socket-bit set that includes a 9MM?

Thanks
just remember, wherever you go, there you are.

happiness is more in your mind than in where you are.

I would bet $1 they are the 12 point "tripple square" funky german bolts. They are on VWs and Porsches, why not Mercedes.

I completely understand your feelings on this. And, it's not simply in WV. I had to search far and wide until I stumbled into a 14 mm bit for the diff drain plug. Metric and M/B specific parts are few and far between and some careful planning is necessary for every job.

Inevitably, a tool or a part is missing and the project must be delayed. Better to delay it rather than try a "git 'er done" attitude with a M/B. The vehicle has a nasty habit of biting you in the ass when you try this.

So, realize that you cannot always finish the job in a single day. Most of my projects never get finished in one day. Even the replacement of some vacuum pods on the SD took over one week to diagnose and obtain parts. It's the nature of these vehicles.

Yep, that's the head........a 12 point head rather than six points.......requires a special bit.......similar to the head bolts.

No... I believe the bolts require a 12MM tool. And the socket will not fit in that tight spot. The rocker tower is tight up close to it. I think I will need to get a "T" tool. I hope I can get enough torque on it with that type of tool.

Or am I looking for this type of tool...?
Anybody who's done this before?
