Death to a Diesel Generator

I got these pictures of a Generator that exploded causing the inside of the generator room to burn, burned up everything the room...

According to the generator manufacture the oil seal on the intake side of the turbo leaked causing the intake side of the turbo to explode and catch the room on fire...

I wonder if the engine didn't "Run Away" in that it started running on its own lubricant and over rev'ed. I had a VW dasher wagon with the 1500 diesel. As the rings wore, It pushed extra oil into the air intake and would start accellerating on ots own . The engine would rev to oblivion as it was not being governed by the inj. pump. The fix was to put an external breather on the engine

saab

I have a convertible saab that lost its turbo last summer and caught on fire.
I was lucky, I got the fire out and saved the car but I dont think I can ever trust a turbo again. They are the weakest link. Everything rids on a tiny brass bearing and a small ring seal.... And when those let go Oil is gushed into a hot exhaust.
