cruise control problem

Am I doing something wrong trying to activate my cruise control? I use the lever on the steering column and nothing happens. Is it just dead, or is there another way to activate it?

You are doing nothing wrong. If it did something now that would be interesting. You have just joined the ranks of us that own non functional cruise controls. There has been a little disscusion of the difficulties encountered with the cruise control in the archives. Have a look under cruise control. There might be a post or two. I know there are some working out there as they are mentioned from time to time. It is a given almost that the cruise is not working on 123 diesel cars I look at. One day I will get a suprise maybe. Resoldering of all the connections in the cruise control module seems to reactivte some. Or for a couple of hundred you can have it rebuilt. But if you resolder it they will not rebuild it for you. To get around this nasty senario I have been experimenting with voodoo reciently. I was hoping the batting average with voodoo might be higher. No luck so far. What am I going to do with all these chicken bones?

I had read about alot of soldering of the connections has worked, I just didnt really want to start messing with stuff if I wasnt even sure how to turn it on. Such as I did with the fog lights. Bah! Oh well, didnt have cruise on my last car, no need to have it now I dont guess.

Here is a link to gdl's website. If you are handy with a multimeter, and have a friend to help it's pretty easy to find a fault or figure out that it's the module. IMO buying a used module is a crap shoot, and some people have had success with soldering the circuit board in the module. I spent the money and sent mine to GDL, price was almost $200 but it works like a charm and has a waranty. Good Luck, Chuck

Gdl

I've had luck with them (my cruise now works).

What I did is sent in the cruise brain and the actuator (what pulls the throttle under the hood) and have them test BOTH on a bench so you know what is the culprit. My cruise brain was a refurb from programa and tested OK. Turned out the actuator was dead.
