about to undertake w140 evap! :)
ok, so we have this s280, a 95, the evap decided to quit... taking it to the stealership is not an option... there are good indies here but again the cost is prohibitive... anyway... i know of a shop that fabricates evaps for a fraction of the cost of a new one... that's where i had my 124 evap done... i did all the labor so i fixed my 300TD cheap!
can i do this with our 140? i'm guessing its the same process... I AM careful. the only immediate things i have no clue how to remove are the console wood, passenger airbag(scary) where do i disconnect?, the instrument panel. These are the things i'm concerned about AT THE MOMENT. i'm sure many more will pop up. hehe any advice is needed... getting my hands on that "video" may be an option but i doubt it. thanks guys!

I'm not aware of anyone on this board that's taken on a 140's dash. I did a partial write-up on a 126 dash removal. Maybe that will help some...and, I'd sure try to lay my hands on some service documentation.
126 dash removal I don't think I'd have a custom evap made either since a new one is only $290 to $350. Fabbing a custom evap seems like a lot of effort and asking for trouble too.

There is a Behr or CRP available to replace the current core with. If you're going to be spending more than a few days pulling something, do it once and do it right.

Do not want to sound like a smart ass, but after owning two S class MB's I learned a tough lesson, these cars are ultimate in creature comfort but they are designed with $$$ no object. The official labour for this job if I am not mistaken is about 26 hours, that is more than 3 days of labor in a qualified shop. If you are going to do this youself, by all means do not go cheap on parts, you do not want to redo the job again.

Good luck - this one is way beyond anything I personally would want to tackle. You may want to look at this article that Steve Brotherton (the moderator Stevebfl on the Tech Help section) wrote about replacing evaporators. Its on his website here.
A couple of highlights: Quote:

Please take pictures if you do this, and again, good luck.

Yes you can do it yourself. You should post in the tech forum a couple of those guys have done it. Remember book time for this job is like 20 hours its a big job!
You will need two things: A camra so you can take lots of pics and get everything back together. Also a FSM, you are digging into a complex dash a FSM is a must. The best price I have heard for this job was a about $2k.
