Exclamation Ac system from E240D fit in E300D?

I've been having electronics problems with the climat control on my E300D and I was wondering if anyone here has changed out the inside controls of the E300D electronic system for the more simple and manual version offered in the E240D? I'm Capable of tracing down my problems and the car sat for a long time before I bought it, just wondering if anyone tried it. I'm looking at options to simplify somewhat! Thanks Guys!

I didn't know MB had a model called the E240D. What chassis is that? If they're the same chassis MBs and they're side by side, I suppose you can swap them out, but it'll be a lot of work.

Maybe you're referring to a C-Class W202? I imagine it'd be like trying to take the manual system out of a 190 and dropping it in a W124...very hard if not impossible. The later chassis you're referring to only sounds more difficult.

I think he's speaking of the E250 Diesel with the OM605 motor. Converting a 124 to a manual climate control system requires changing every single HVAC related part in / under the dash with the exception of the air nozzles. Why not just fix the system and let it operate as designed?

The only W210 E class diesel imported to the USA was the 96-99 E300. Your question is therefore causing confusion as most folks here think in terms of the ol 240D from the 70's & 80's.

Your question will get a better response on European forums where folks know the features of the models you are refering to.

Oops!

I probably should have mentioned that I've got a 1983 E300D- W123 and was looking into changing over to the manual system found in the W123 E240D! Much less complicated and no electronics to mess up! Totally manual system that seems to be less prone to problems. I was just sort of thinking about it and wondered if anyone has done it.

There is no E on those models. It's only 300D and 240D.

According to the factory Mercedes Benz service manual, the W123 models of 240D and 300D were an E class and should be considered as such.

Look on the trunk and see what they say. Look for parts on fastlane and look what they ask for. Look on eBay and see what cars are listed as. Do a google search and see what gets more results.

The "Exxx Diesel" nomenclature did not come into existence until June 1993.

Well, I guess since you know more than others here, you should figure out your answer no problem.......

What they are "considered", and what they have been called for 30 years are quite different.

They may be considered E-class, but nobody ever says E300D when referring to a W123 (or a W124 except for maybe a 1995).

The instant you start putting the letter ahead of the numbers, people instantly think of late model Mercedes (E300, ML320, R350, etc...).

Sorry guys! I'm from England and our designations are a little different. I brought my service books with me when I came here in 1980! We still spell tire, tyre and this is how my books are written. I still refer to the hood as the bonnet and the trunk as the boot and diesel as parrafin! I know that in England, one could order a E300D OOPS, 300D with the manual climate control system like the 240. I guess that was never an option on this side of the pond?
