143 horsepower jetta diesel engine.

I was by my normally reliable volkswagon dealer today. When I inquire about when the new diesel engine will be here he stated mid 2008. Then he suprised me by mentioing that they had just been informed it will be 143 horsepower. A two litre capacity block as well.
I wonder if true what will be left if anything of the once decent fuel milage. I always felt the 90 and 100 horsepower engines were adaquate generally. I also have to wonder what the corporate thinking is. People have purchased these for the economy of operation in the past. Has there been some technical break through? If it got 143 horses out and really good fuel milage it would be a hot seller. In fact there might be few gas cars that could stay with it. Time will tell both if the information was accurate and that engine is practical.
