Intro, injector line question, manuals question

Hello all,

I'm Tami, and have just purchased a 1987 TDT wagon to bring home to Mississippi.

"'Ti Blanc" (already named her) nearly home after 1400 mile trip when the #3 injection line broke at the pump-side ferrule. Messy, but not life threatening. Part is on order from dealer.

Incidentally, BERT ALLEN, dealer in Biloxi, are a **phenomenal** bunch of abject jerks. I am tripping to Mobile rather than deal with them, and am writing to Daimler in Germany to complain. But that's another story.

Here's the thing: Looking at the setup, it seems to me that the lines should be ziptied or fastened down in some sort of way to keep from vibrating so. There was chafe evidence on the line, although not near the actual break point, which was right at the flange/ferrule thingie. (How bout that for tech talk.) The faces of the break are dull, which incline me to believe there may have been a longtime crack in the line.

I'd reference my MANUAL... unfortunately there was none with the car. Therefore I would also appreciate any suggestions. Have gone to MB USA 'classic' page and most likely will purchase from there... but any better ideas are of course appreciated, as are any other salient suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
tami

They should be tied down either to each other or the engine so they can vibrate in unison.

Also, welcome aboard!

Welcome!

Putting your vehicle lineup in the signature line is helpful, as some folks fail to mention what car they are refering to, makes it difficult to diagnose. There is something you might be interested in, E-Class (124) Owner's Bible available, or used to be, here http://www.toadhallbook.com fbarret@aol.com I'm a 123, and 126 type, BTW, what is a F-27 GS trimaran?

The clips you want are plastic clips that clip to various places on the intake manifold. You can get them at the dealer or may be able to find them from the "Buy Parts" tab above. I purchased mine at the dealer but haven't had a chance to install them.

They should not be tied and the clips should not be metal.

If you're hungry to get all the shop manuals you can get your hands on, then by all means get the E-Class Bible, but if you're looking for a real shop manual look no further than the Factory Service Manual from Mercedes Benz. Call 800-FOR-MERC or go to http://www.mbusa.com (Mercedes In-Depth -> Classic -> Classic Center -> Technical Literature).

Welcome to the forum. Great car you picked out

Don't know why you quoted me on that, but the post said pretty clearly 1987 300TD right there in the first line. You must be one of those "skimmers"

justin - I had originally posted a reply referring to the 617 fuel injection line clips. I deleted that post.

Tami,
Welcome to the Forum. You will find everything you need to know right here. If you aren't afraid to turn wrenches the experts here can make Mercedes' ownership downright economical.
As for buying parts.... Click on the "BuyParts" tab and visit Mercedes Shop. ( Hint: note name of the forum in "mercedesshop.com). Phil is a great guy. He will steer you in the right direction. I have always been pleased with his service. Old-timers around here have read it before, but I ordered some brake stuff from him at 4PM EST times one day. Stuff I needed to get my car inspected and back on the road asap--It was delivered to my house before I got home from work, the very next afternoon. Service like that, combined with his knowledge is a combination that is hard to beat.--plus its good to support the guy who provides this forum.

Thank you all

for your kind assistance! I am rather stoked about meine auto. I'm even beginning to have this weird horrible obviously false German accent.

I wish I'd known about our forum sponsor selling parts with that kind of turnaround before I ordered from McConnell. Well, McC were nice guys in any case. But fear not, 'Ti Blanc' needs plenty of things...

What is an F27 GS? Well, she is BOUDICCA, first and foremost. Miz B is... well... the GS stands for Granger/Smyth, the architects of her rather extensive modifications. Let's just say that she is a 'hot rod' trimaran sailboat. She can be seen at:

If you're interested in other Farrier designs, the website is:

Kewl boats. Next best thing to my 18 Square dinghy catamaran...

thanks again
sea ya

She's off and running!

Went got the part y'day, installed, and spent the rest of the day driving T.B. ('Ti Blanc) around.

She busts off at the touch of the key. Acceleration is not bad. Husband has done some research on the ALDA (sp?) adjustment, we'll be messing with that in near future.

I believe DH ordered some stuff from here, and I know he's ordered manuals from various places. Although I didn't want to do it, until the clips come in I've ziptied the lines to their bracket bits and what's left of the old clips. It should be ok for a bit, anyway.

She'll be getting seriously tested tonight, as my friends and I are tripping to ATL. I am carrying tools ;-)

There is one rather odd thing... I noticed that sometimes when I turn right, I hear a kind of scraping sound in the front left wheelwell. Sounds like a bit of plastic, like a trim piece rubbing against the tire, almost. It's intermittent (damnit). Suggestions?

Raise the car up and look where the leading edge, in this case the inner edge of the left wheel goes when you turn the wheel. Look for any rub marks. Also look at both side walls on the tires and look for scuffing.

Then check the outer edge of the wheel where is gets close to when you turn.

Because the car will be raised up, the part that is being rubbed may or may not come in contact at that time, but you can see the areas that the tire is getting close to.

I put bigger wheels and tires on my 4x4 and had this happen. It rubbed only when backing up since the geometry changes a bit due the direction change.
It was a small piece of plastic in the fenderwell, so I just trimmed it back.
