Where can i buy these clips?
Ive looked on a few websites but i can not find a place to buy these clips for the brakes on my 81 240D.
when i step on the brakes going slow i get a clank and i narrowed it down to the front left brake, the pads are shifting in the caliper just enough to clank and i think these clips are not holding them tight in. ![]()

The wire clips are probably not the source of the "clank" -- their purpose is to steady the pads when the brake is not applied. Most likely, the brake pad backing plates and/or the caliper surface where the backing plates ride have worn, thus creating a gap so the pad can move a bit before butting up against the caliper. If you can move the pad up/down in the direction of rotor movement, there's your problem.

Can you not just simply put them in a vise and bend the ends outward until they are wide enough to wedge in the caliper again? (Man, that was a long sentence. My old English teacher would have beat me!)

The single piece is what I have seen on all mine. W123's and W126.

Just about any import auto parts place ought to carry them. mine did, viking imports. ATE calipers do not have that setup, Bendix uses the springs. ATE uses the metal plate thingie...

The Bendix calipers on my 300SD are set up nearly identically to that.
The clip on the bottom shouldn't be hanging out loose on the left side, though. When it's in good shape, it's tightly wedged against the left side, pinching the clip between the sides of the caliper. As to finding parts, like said above, I think you'd be well off just looking for a Bendix parts kit. Failing that, I found that when I got my rebuilts, they both came with the whole parts kit.. ![]()
