I kind of recall when i was in flat terrain, i would always tilt my IP pump in towards the engine because that made the drips from the drip test miniscule and when I tilted it away, I would get gobs. I noticed that tilting it towards the engine made it idle very quiet as well.

Now I am on hilly terrain and I need the oomph, so I brought the IP pump outwards away from the engine a nudge to the factory punch marked setting. The engine sounds like its got nuts and bolts and tools loose inside it.

I just want to confirm, tilting the pump outwards from the engine makes the drip test drippier and the fuel supply a little fatter and vice versa for moving it a nudge to towards the engine. At least I think so.

You are not changing the amount of fuel being delivered, you are changing the timing of the injection. By advancing the timing the engine will be noisier at idle, but may give you a little more high rpm performance, a little like adjusting the ignition timing on a gasser.

sounds like a bad thing to me...

Uhhh that was figurative...I had it tuned so it was the quietest Diesel I had ever heard, like a Rolex. I know it was unnaturally inwards 'cause I could barely get in there with an extension bar and a 10mm socket to tighten the innermost IP bolt and on most 300D's the way i see them, you could use a Monkey wrench to tighten that bolt...

Now it sounds like the difference between washing silk stockings in your washing machine and washing your Timberlands in your washing machine

Of course I have repeatdly said i have torn down and rebuilt these engines but that doesnt mean I have done it right--come to think of it, I am still missing several crsecent wrenches since I did my valves...and my valve cover does have a clanging noise

you're not supposed to wash the timberlands... just brush them off. if they are so bad they need to be washed, it's time to get new timberlands.
I know what you mean about loosing tools working on cars.
I believe there are three complete tool kits from craftsman lurking inside some of my project cars...

How else do you get the oil off?

Tilting the IP toward the engine advances the timing.. Unless it's the other way around.. but I think that's it..
