which window? the fronts are a big job, but really not too bad... just much more involved than the rears. not sure what you mean by the "track," but pretty much everything has to come out of the door before you can remove the regulator assembly. if you're trying to remove the front vertical track thing (which holds the weatherstripping that the window slides in), it fits in a square hole in the bottom and the top I believe attaches to the triangular assembly where the side mirror would attach. you have to pull back some weatherstripping to get to the screw. Then, I'm pretty sure you'll have to remove the triangular thing (more hidden screws) in order to pull the track out through the top.
hope this helps, - dave

Ok so there's a screw on the bottom under that square rubber piece on the front window track?
I'm doing the drivers window.

The motor has to be removed first. You will need to cut three 20mm holes to gain access to the motor mounting cap screws. The door check also has to be removed to get the motor to drop down low enough in the door to get it past the window track.

1 Remove the window from the carrier 2 Allow the window to go all the way down top the bottom of the door 3 Then remove the weatherstripping from the window frame, 4 Remove the screw at the top (you'll see it ) and the screw on the bottom of the front track 5 Lay the track down inside the door, and remove the regulator.

yeah, you definitely don't need to remove the motor first. I've done this a couple of times... I know that's what the manual says, and I can see why, but it's not necessary. basically you need to gut the door of everything... window tracks, the side mirror, etc. and then you can get the complete regulator out. I just did this on my 116 a couple of weeks ago, and before that did it at the pull-a-part in order to get the regulator I was putting in.
just find the hidden screws... there are at least two or three that are hidden by weatherstripping. the rest is just a matter of patience. - dave

Got you beat by 3 min. Its not that difficult. Just did this on a 79 SD W116. Pulled all the regulators, cleaned and greased. Shimed the worm gear bushing on the RF motor, straightened the LR regulator. Found the RR motor MISSING! No wonder it didn't work. I could use a good '0 130 821 016' motor. Common with the W123 I believe. |
