In the dvd I have,The classic center completly rebuilt one of the famed silver arrows from the ground up. It was ruined in a fire but they worked off original drawings and replaced everything and salvaged what they could.

I walk into the Ford dealer and want to order a part for my dads 1994 F150. OMG its so old, we may not be able to get it.

I walk into the Mercedes dealer and want to order a part for my 87 SDL. They say no problem, go in back and come out with it. Or say sorry its going to be a couple of days we need to get it out of NJ.

Mercedes has the best parts support of any company I have ever delt with.

Oh, holy crap. There's no way they looked very hard for a used one. The car may not be common, but I bet other cars use the same freakin' part! Heck, slap a universal electric fan controller kit in to it. A relay, a sensor, and an adjustable controller that can be purchased at a place like Autozone for $20. I've used them when putting electric fans on cars that originally had mechanical fans. Works great.

That sucks.

So far Mercedes has been very helpful in finding me the parts I need.

Yeah I've got to admit the guy didn't try to hard to get it running again. Then again....if I owned that car, I probably would have just scrapped it. But....I'd have never owned the car....oh well.

Same here. Being a Ford, I'd have set it on fire and posted the video on YouTube.

Unfortunately, this isn't the trend which I find pretty saddening since it eventually erodes the will to explore simple and creative solutions to problems.
Problem is, if your car bursts into flame, a hungry lawyer won't stop just at your shoulders if someone else claims damages or injury from the alleged results of your jury-rigged fan.

Happy Motoring, Mark

I'd put the lawyer in the Ford before I set it on fire?

Okay, all kidding aside, not all lawyers are bad... Just most of 'em. I've known a few with high personal standards.

We take it for granted that we can get any part we may need. One might go as far as to say we are spoiled by a company that actually has a moral commitment to its heritage and legacy, its LONG line of commited and loyal customers. It is after all, Mercedes Benz we are talking about. (Many new MB owners may disagree)

As far as simple is better: I agree. These old cars we drive can keep up with anything new IMHO. Then again, I'm a little biased.

I don't know if they will "keep up," but they will probably outlast them.

My friend's dad has always had good luck with Ford pickups. He's got an 80's ranger with 300K on it and he hasn't changed any mechanical items except for a water pump and an alternator. Is it pretty to look at or ride in? No way, but it starts every day and hasn't let him down. He wasnt sure if it would pass smog but it did, he was ready to get a nicer Toyota truck but that's on the back burner now.

He just gets all his parts at Kragen or Autozone and they're dirt cheap.

If i were concerned about reliability i sure as hell wouldn't buy a new Mercedes fellas.

I actualy like the new ML320CDI. Rode around in one the other day, nice SUV. The old ML's are POS, but the new ones are not bad.
