What drives the price of Diesel, seriously--last year it was cheaper than Gas..

Remember last year? Diesel was $2.75 a gallon? Gas was at $2.98? People were running out like crazy to buy Diesel cars...everyone was salivating at our Diesel's

Now I may be really wrong, but to me Diesel comes from the same stuff hat Gas does. I think something changes in the cracking process, but when they invented Google I saved my mind for remembering more important things like all the new phone #'s you have to learn when you move

So I am sure I could Google this. But I would like to get some Dieselhead input? What is driving the price of Diesel this year? I though the Home Heating Oil season, when it wound down, would drive the price down..

What seems to be the case is they are artificaly inflating the price by bidding on oil futures as Enron did to drive up electrical costs in California. If it wasn't for that diesel would be $1.70 per gallon.

Our regulators must have found that looking out for us isn't as profitable as looking out for the big oil companies. The price of their personal integrity must be having a going out of buisness sale.

History has shown that the little guy always loses... No matter how much bull**** our politicians spew, no matter how many babies they kiss, and phony smiles they cast in our direction - the fact of the matter remains - the interests of wealthy organizations will always outweigh those of the common man. Its really a terrible shame - people hold out such high ideals - and then conduct themselves behind closed doors in a manner completely contrasting those ideals.

Diesel is always a little more expensive in the winter months because they also use it for home heating oil in the colder areas of the country. Also remember that we all now use ULSD which means it's proscessed further than it was before, giving the distributor and oil companies another reason to charge more for the product.

Years ago they added MBTE to gas, the price went up even though MBTE was a waste byproduct of refining. Now gas prices went up when they took MBTE out of the gas and replaced it with another oxygenator like ethanol. The oil companies always make out.

Here are some things you can Google to research what's happening:

1) "Oil Company Profits"

2) "Dollar Devaluation"

3) "Rip-Off"

It turns out that for many people and businesses, their oil demand is not flexible. You can't easily reduce driving to work and shopping for food.

So to me it is becoming a matter of trying to see how much they can charge before demand drops - thus maximizing profits.

It's at $4.59 here this morning and has been going up 10 cents every couple days. Expect your wake up call early next week.

I won't be surprised to see $5, but it may take a little longer than a week. I'm only surprised the the cost of gasoline hasn't moved significantly.... yet.

I agree, I thought we would see $4.00 gas by now. The cheap stations here are at $3.55.

OK, I paid $5.15 for B99. Should I wake you up now? I did see D2 for $4.37 and that seemed like a good deal. Imagine that, $4.37 seemed like a good deal.

According to a recent investigation the Canadians are being blamed for the high prices in our little North West county. I guess Stephen Colbert was right, we should invade Canada.

God I love these fuel threads.

all of you Bio drivers are going on about "big oil" price gouging, as if they just all get together at a weekly meeting and decide what the price is gunna be. I think you would be VERY surprised at what kind of margin those B99 retailers are running at. The local place here seems to keep their price pegged to about 10 cents more than diesel, no matter what its at. what an amazing coincidence! it would probably cost LESS than petro diesel if it werent for all the fanatics who buy biodiesel just so they can put a sticker on the back of their car!
