Wondering if users would post their ideas for parts/upgrades when heading to the junkyard. Mercedes diesels are in short supply, and PawoSD will have already picked over anything I might find

.

So, could you share what you might pull off gasser Mercedes, earlier or later models, other makes?

Sort of an "all inclusive" junkyard shopping list: I keep watching for those H4's - finally found a pair off a VW - bracket looks different.

This looks like it will fit. A quick search gave me the part #AL49X. May be a good alternative, I will report back later this week when I install it. Looks very much like the stock alternator, but has more air holes on the back like the AL129X. If this works, it may be a good one for people who can't get their hands on that elusive saab alternator.

I would grab all the switches and relays I could find, maybe pull a window regulator and motor, vacuum line and joints (never hurts to have some spares around), hood emblems, good interior wood, air cleaner bracket, etc, etc.

Basically I would look for all the piddly things that are prone to fail, especially the things that cause you to cuss when you find out how much they cost new.

You bet they'll be picked over. I strip everything I find off MB's in the yard.

Should have seen what I did to a euro 500SEL in November.

Currently I am seeking a saab though for the bigger alternator....

pfft.. Eagleco and I basically left the euro 230E an empty shell when I found it... only thing left in it is the engine.

I was lucky enough to be the first to have at a pretty nice 420sel last year, got a pair of euros, headlight leveling system, and a *****in' zebrano wood shift knob, all for $30.

the elusive Al129X is on the SAAB's that have the transverse mounted engine... if you are pulling the alternator off the top of the engine by the firewall on the drivers side you are only going to get a 90A one.

the 129X you have to get it from the passenger side wheel well.. and they are all a serp belt that i saw. the pulleys are easily changed, just make sure you have the woodruff key.

to remove the pulley you can use a puller... OR if you do not have a puller... loosen the bolt a bit, hold the alt up and hit the end of the shaft/bolt and it will slide out. be careful not to damage threads. put it on in reverse and hit it with the impact wrench once or twice.

No junk yards around here, if there were I would keep an eye out for an AMG'd W126. I did get my clear corners from the 420SEL that I got for free, and the trunk carpet matt which was amazingly clean.

my buddy just junked a 300sd the other day. All I took was the star from the hood. My cars are all 123's, but I should have taken the altenator.

i'm always searching for a good passenger seat bottom that I can swap into the worn out driver's seat.

I just did this to Coda! She's so happy and my 400+ mile drive I did on Sunday was comfortable. I even put all the "seat trim" on the new driver's seat. The leather pattern does not match, but it still feels MUCH nicer.

Oh.....does anyone need a W126 complete electric seat "frame" ???

As I learned from Teutone on Benzworld, the dome light from a 87 190E with fit in the 81-85 126's but the 190 has the map light option. Wiring plugs in just the same. I just picked one up today.

Got an inst cluster from a 1979 380SE euro (126 body). It's got a trim pot to calibrate the speedo & odo. No need to change speedo when changing diff or tire size. Not sure if this is a euro thing or part of the DOT conversion by the speedo shop.

Also fits the 123 cars, got one for mine. Plug and play.
