Antoher battery tray issue -- Wheel Well inner coating
Like many before me, I took out the battery tray today and it is real bad. If anyone has one that is usable, let me know!
Of course, underneath there is a hole that looks like it could get rather big if I start poking. I've read threads here about using jb weld/sheet metal/por15 to deal with this, which I will attempt even though I have never done anything like this. My question is what do you coat the inside of the wheel well with? I would have to rip out a good deal of that rubbery stuff. Looks like roofing tar or something. Thanks!

I had the same hole in my wagon when I bought it. I cleaned up all the rust. Painted it with POR 15. Then put a couple layers of fiberglass on the inside and the outside. Then painted over it with some spray paint. This was done 4 years ago and seems to be holding up pretty good.
As for the tray. I again cleaned up the rust and POR 15'ed the tray. Then sprayed it with the rubberized undercoating.

MB uses some type of rubbery under coating. I had a small rust problem I repaired using POR. then used a product called Herculiner. bought a qt can of the stuff and painted it on.
It is a rubbery stuff used to paint on truck beds. when the stuff dries, it is as tough as nails. It was around $30.00 for the can, but well worth it. It is better product that the spray on undercoating I have used. most seem to be a tar based and stay some what soft. Charlie

I used Herculiner also
It's good stuff. Later, I found out that body shops use a 3M product called Gravitex. It's supposed to be what MB USA specifies.
