1982 300SD gets 47 mpg? really?

So those hydrogen fuel cells do actually work?

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1073398022.html

If anyone buys this, I would like to see the mileage verified.

LOL. A magic plywood box in the trunk miraculously doubles the car's mileage. 4-8k of towing capacity? Yeah right.....thats equal to double the car's weight! You'd be doing about 15mph in 1st gear pulling 8,000lbs.

"installed a hydrogen fuel cell which allows me to get 47 MPG on the open highway"

It is all bogus. Mythbuster on Discover Channel verifies that none of the increase mpg gadgets works. It is not so much I believe Discover Channel, it is because if it works then auto company would have installed them and brag about it.

So why doesnt someone reply to the ad and tell him he is full of it. I have done it in the past. Nothing urkes me more than for someone to blatently lie to the public in an attempt to sell something. When someone makes a false claim to try and fool someone into a sale, I will call them on it, no holds barred. I had a guy once try to sell me a ford F100, he said he wanted $1050 for the truck, I asked if hed take $950, he said the truck had one of those tornado deals in the carb, some sort of spacer plate that let him get 35mpg. I looked him dead in the eye and said, "There is no 390 FE V8 that is going to get 35mpg from a spacer plate, infact, you can take it off and keep it, because I know for a fact that it does not work" I then asked, with the tornado removed, would he take $950. He said that since I was rude, it wasnt for sale to me. I told him, I was rude in response to a rip off scheme, and knowingly false info. I dunno, maybe I am an ass, but I just feel that its my place in life to play car sale police....lol, it seems more rude to me to pass off a possible junk yard candidate, to a seller, and tell them, oh it runs like a top, 35 mpg, never once had a problem.

The tornado thingy may help with a single-cylinder overhead valve engine....

Such a load of crap!!!!!! He must have rerouted the exhaust directly into the cabin air vents.

We should all flag it down. It works. All different IP addresses.

"This is a great car, a 1982 Mercedes 300SD diesel." - FACT

"I built and installed a hydrogen fuel cell which allows me to get 47 MPG on the open highway, also makes the car run smoother and gives a little extra power." - BS

I’ve also installed a hitch and trailer wiring. - FACT

(never had a chance to tow anything but this car can tow up to 6000 pounds and I’ve heard of people even pulling 8K pounds over long periods.) - BULL****, A LOT OF BULL****

There are noticeable cracks in the windshield and some small rips in the two front seats and one in the back seat. Both rear windows are stuck in the up position. - TRUE

Not hard to fix and the plastic part that’s broken inside the door costs $5 on ebay. - LIE

I bought this car about a year ago for $4,000 - POSSIBLE BUT MOST LIKELY BULL****

and it hasn’t broken down once since I’ve owned it. - VERY POSSIBLE

This is the most dependable car I’ve ever owned, - MOST LIKELY FACT

but I need an SUV for seating more people. - WHATEVER

I’m asking $2,900 or best offer. - GOOD LUCK

Clean title and doesn’t require smog since it’s a diesel. - NOT IN ALL STATES

Need to sell soon. - FOR SURE

YO!

Uhh that's only 100 pounds....

8,000 lbs I mean really.....? My truck can pull more than 8,000lbs but it's got 440lbft of torque and a lockup converter. I can't imagine anyone building a hitch (Class IV??) for a car that will accept a 2.5" receiver on a unitbody car.

FLAG IT DOWN!!!

It'll get 47 mpg, as long as it's only towing 7999lbs.

One more flag!

By the way, I might be selling my old Landcruiser, it can tow 15000lbs and gets 35mpg.
