Central Locking Mod???

One thing that I always disliked on both w201 and w124 is the fact that if you are inside the car and lock all the doors, if you want to let someone in, you have to open your door to unlock the central locking system...

I took a look at the electric diagram of the car and I think that with a simple 2-way push button I can have in the console a Lock/unlock button for the central locking system!

The trick is to just use the button to send a 12V or a Ground pulse to the Blue wire that goes to the Central Locking Unit, this way we bypass the door actuator!

What do you guys think?
I'll give it a try maybe tomorow, if it works I think I have a spare defrost button lying around...would be perfect for the console!

And why can't you just unlock the door somebody is wanting to get into? What is hard about unlocking your door?

If the vacuum lock system is working, I don't see much benefit to installing a jerry-rigged, loud, clunking electric system.

On both my cars I installed a remote lock system just on the drivers door so I don't have to wear out my key.

When my door pins are pressed down I can't push them up, I have to open my door...

If i'm with my seat belt it's impossible to reach the passenger's door to open it...

It's even more difficult to reach the right passenger's door...LOL

On these cars the lock vacuum is controlled by a switch in the driver's door and a pump in the trunk so they already sort of are electronic, he is just adding another switch. I kind of like this idea, but it seems like it would be easier to just pull on the driver's door lock mushroom when you need to let somebody in.

Yes, but my mushrooms "disapear" when pressed down...

I like the idea....I like the ability for someone in the passenger seat to lock/unlock the doors without having to unbuckle/reach over. I would think putting the switch in the center console above the window switches--like where the heated seat switches would be...if you are so lucky to have them

Would the lock pins from a W126 work? They can be pulled up when locked.

If a passenger pulls the handle hard enough, their door will open when the driver's door is locked. When it closes, it'll lock back.

Hopefully not from the out side handle

Maybe you can just swap some mushroom lock pulls on...

You could simply replace the plungers with the type that you can grab. Someone installed those smooth ones at some point because they're impossible to grab with a coat hanger (as an anti-theft mod). All you need to do is unscrew them and screw on a set of originals which would restore the functionality of the locking system to unlock without opening the doors.

I could do that but the coat hanger would be a threat again!!!!!

In reality car thieves can easily get in with a slim jim or a brick if they really want to get in. I have never seen one use a coat hanger so you aren't really preventing anything other than the convenience of having a locking system that works as it was designed to.

+1
I've seen myself use a coat hanger to get in my own 300D when I locked my keys in, takes less than a minute. I think that's wonderful and I would never want to defeat that feature!

Best policy is not leave anything in the car you are not willing to part with.

How did you wire up your mod? I have a keyless entry module with some key fobs I acquired some years ago exactly for this purpose.
