Just my theory, no for or against opinions on SVO VS diesel.
I do not know about quieting that Diesel Knock but when I was looking at aricles on burning used Engine Oil mixed with Diesel Fuel; one said that there is more energy in the Engine Oil.
I do not recall what they said concerning the Cetane rating.

I did a quick search on "Fogging". What I found is that it is an Engine Preservation technique to keep things lubed an preserved (helps prevent rust) while the Engine is not used.
Amsoil even sells "Fogging Oil" in a spray can.

This is a real problem as Folks who only take there boat out for a ride ounce a month and let the Engeine sit without running it are the ones who indeed have a lot of problems with their Engines. More so if it is a Boat that sits in the Marina surrounded by all that damp air.

I guess that same would apply to a Snowmobile or any other Engine you put up for a long time.

One person said it was not a good thing to do to Indirect Injection Diesel Engines that it could cause damage if ignited.

The two-stroke oil sounds interesting. Do you guys recommend a specific brand, preferably one I can pick up at Walmart?

2-stroke

for my N-14 Cummins engine, I just buy the gallons at Walmart.

Although I have not noticed any quieting or increase of mileage on my truck from ATF, I have noticed quieting on my car when I apply it to the fuel tank.

"Fogging"

An engine (Marine Two Stroke Outboard) is performed as a preventative for/before "Winter Layup"
[The Two stroke's ONLY Lubricant is provided in the
Gasoline/Oil mix...and long periods of disuse "Dry" out the Piston/Cylinder system, along with the Rings.]
"Fogging" a four stroke Marine Diesel is not necessary...
In fact you'd be better served removing the Glow Plugs/Injectors and squirting
into the cylinders some Synthetic Marine Rated Four Stroke Oil.(teaspoonful)
(Replace the Glow Plugs/Injectors)
Leave a RED rag tied to the Steering Wheel to remind yourself to rotate the
engine with the Starter AND the Fuel Shutoff Enabled, until you get Oil Pressure,
in the Spring.

ATF is red, and if you get an EPA dip, you can get false positive fined for using off road diesel.

Thumbs up Jeez, I must be gettin' old......

Folks,

I use Marvel Mystry Oil.....yes it's red, but you don't use all that much.......seems to serve the same purpose as y'all are gettin' with 2 stroke oil.......

I got into the habit of using MMO, back when the went to unleaded gasoline......in my flathead Ford hopped up/hot rod motor.....just use as directed.....everything I got has MMO in it......put it in my jerry cans when I fill 'em up.....

I just added Exxon Superflow TCW3 to my fuel when I filled up today. I went with a 200:1 ratio shown in the article I posted the link to.

I am now on my fourth tank of fuel keeping engine rpm's at 3000 or less. Running 44 psi (cold) in the tires, I have netted 30.6, 30.2, 30.4 and 30.0 mpg respectively.

My daily commute is about 58 miles one way and totally flat, except for 3 overpasses...Robert

Some of the Cummings diesel pick up guys are using 1 oz per gallon. That would mean I need 18 oz per tank. Last filling I added 12 oz. One warmed up the engine is definitely quieter. Maybe I'll put the 1oz/gallon amount in next filling and see how the engine runs.

Anyone noticing mpg changes, either up or down? Doesn't seem that such a small amount of 2 stroke oil should cause much mpg change at all.

Wolf,

I'm not sure about mpg, but the engine runs both cooler and quieter. I think my bump past the 30 mpg mark is more a result of kepping the rpm/upm under 3,000 than anything else...Robert
