Two-Stroke Premix:

I have been using this at about a 1 ounce per gallon concentration. I don't seem to be getting any more smoke than normal, but I have to say, the acceleration is notceably improved and the engine is quieter. Anyone else notice this???...Robert

Use a stop watch and time 0-60. See if it is a real gain or a percieved gain. I did a diesel purge and the car sure FELT faster...in reality it was not.

I use it, FWIW, in the SD. No abnormal smoke or anything. You can buy a gallon of it at walmart for pretty cheap.

Two STroke Motor Oil

I use it as a cheap form of Lucas . . . .LOL in my peterbilt (cummins). I found that I could use only 1 quart per 140 gals of diesel. ONly problem, it doesn't have injector cleaner, so every fourth tank, I throw in dedicated injector cleaner, or ATF. It definitely smooths out the engine and improves mileage. You may also want to try Lucas fuel additive for similar results, but more expensive.

Oh boy.

I thought ATF was not to be used because it caused carbon build up.

I use an oz of 2 cycle oil per gallon at fill up, I buy it by the gallon from Walmart.

I don`t care what the oil co`s say, Diesel now days doesn`t have the lubercating qualities that it did when I was a kid. now it looks more like water.
I use to use ATF in my Datsun Diesel for years, never a problem with it messing up the injectors or what ever. though I would never admit to using it here on the forum .

I read on a Dodge Diesel Forum (Morparman I think) uses it and said his milage went up with it. I haven`t noticed it increasing or decreasing any.

Some say it is snake oil, maybe, maybe not. If it keeps the snake happy and we can slither down the road, Iam all for it .

I drove 150 miles of freeway today, and the car felt like it was running even better when I got home.....though it was probably the same. Its all in perception.

Can you notice the engine running quieter for those of you that add ATF or 2-stroke oil to your fuel?

Yes, 2 stroke oil (West Marine) is what I use.

Snake OIl

I have done extensive record keeping about what improves the mileage on my N14 Cummins, as I am a long-haul truck driver. During the $4.50 plus days, I was going crazy trying everything to increase my mileage above 5.5 mpg. The only thing that consistently worked, was to use an upper cylinder lubricant in the correct amounts. I used a gallon of Lucas, or 1/2 gallon of 2-stroke oil for approximately 300 gals. They were the only products that consistently raised my fuel mileage and quieted the engine down. However, since 2-stroke oil doesn't have an injector cleaner, I had to put that in, either as a dedicated cleaner, or switch to the actual Lucas (or USA Lube) at least once every six fillups. ATF made no difference on my fuel mileage or quieting down the engine, but worked as an injector cleaner, in the right amounts. Unfortunately, the ultra low sulfur diesel does not perform as well on our older MBZ or heavy-duty truck engines, necessitating a regular dose of upper cylinder lubricant. However, I have noticed that Bio-diesel does quiet things down, if at least B11, but didn't make a difference in mileage, and maybe a bit less power.

I'd stick with 2-stroke oil or Lucas, and definitely use anti-gel in winter.

My thoery: Diesels run "smoother&quieter" while on ATF/SVO/Motor oil because these fuels are more viscous than diesel, dampening the mechanical injection system. The fuels also burn slower than diesel, resulting in a "softer" firing cycle.

Just my theory, no for or against opinions on SVO VS diesel.
