Okay, I primed it until diesel started flowing from the canister filter then I tightened the handle and the bolt on top of the filter

Got it to buzz and now I'm up and running. Gonna let it idle for a bit before I head to the parts store.

Thanks again everyone

did you ever hear a hiss from the tank cap? I have to wonder if you may have noted a symptom and not realized it.

Good that it has started and youre up and running. Good luck and keep us posted.

move the stick to the top of the cap... fuel jostles around, and this will minimize the amount spilled out.

Will do. Now I'm just waiting out the battery charge at AutoZone.

Never heard it, but I wasn't listening for it either.

By right, you mean they haven't been switched yet?

Okay. Now I just have to figure out exactly which two to swap.

see the two metal lines. the cigar shaped hose hooks up to the top one, the fuel inlet to the plastic prefilter hooks to the lower one.
swap those two rubber lines, and you have swapped the supply/return lines from/to the tank.
simple.

Thanks. It's recommended that I don't do this unless I have another problem, correct?

Anything else I should pick up while I'm at the parts store? I've got a spare battery, a spare canister filter, and a spare inline filter.

I'll see if they have one of those battery jumper suitcases too.

I made it 90 miles to Tuscaloosa, AL. 275 miles to go.

I've noticed a few more quirks. I'll search and see what other posts have to say about it. Namely, the car has a slight problem going up hills and when I floor the accelerator the engine revs significantly but I loose power.

I knew I was asking for a project when I bought the car. I just wish I had purchased one closer to home.

Thanks again for all the help. I'll continue to keep you posted.

I'll look into this when I get home.
