Selling my '82 300CD today and keeping the 240D stick

My wife tells me the CD it too sexy for me! (thanks dear). There is something about the simplicity of the 240D and the way it sounds that's just kind of relaxing. No more oil leaks, no more air filter mounts to replace, no electric window switches, no sunroof leaks, er no more AC! Oh well. I'll take care of that eventually. The CD is going to a good home. A guy is getting it for his daughters first car and a present for passing the drivers test. Must be nice. I had to buy my own bug for my first car. I hope she doesn't trash it too soon. I'm already cringing at the thought of her curbing the Ronal wheels! Oh well, it's hers now.............

Bundts, They still haven't picked it up. She failed her driving test but dad said he'll get it for her anyway. Coupes are easier to come by than '84 Euro 240 4 speeds I figure. Glow plugs are easier to put in too. I just put in new ones for them on the CD. IF they leave it here longer.............

Yes but coupes are the trendy one to have there-and they bring a premium for a clean rust free Cali example. like ebayer -pointdumedan -one of the guys who always has the cars pictured in Malibu.
I dont even need the glow's they haven't worked since I swaped em and had one autolite-fail. It smokes a little on startup in the winter but starts right up all the rest of yr-we only have about 6 weeks of cold days here.

There is nothing like a 4 speed 240D, brutally primitive, it is probably the most desirable basic diesel if there ever was one.

I was just recently in the same situation. Other than the car is too sexy for me. I just sold my 82 300TD, and kept my 240D. I miss the turbo for sure. The simplicity of the 240 make is so much more enjoyable to work on.

Yup. I bought a TDI Jetta wagon. And I have no use for three cars. So the wagon was sitting most of the time. The 240 is in way better shape so I decided to let the wagon go.

Yeah, I felt a bit like a trader, but I wanted a modern diesel car. The only ones that are available are VW's. It's my wife's car really. I've only driven it a handful of times in the 6 months that we've owned it.

It's sure has a lot more get-up-and-go than any of the 123's I've ever driven. It's a zippy little thing.

They still haven't picked up the coupe. I drove it yesterday just to remind me what I was giving up. The ride is definitely more plush than the 240, faster of course and quieter. I drove the 240 over the hill today and it's nimbler on the curves. Lighter and bouncier (shocks maybe, we'll see). Patience is a must if you have a steep grade so I'll have to work on that. The noise is greater but a hood pad will help. The car did not come with one and I kind of like the shiny underhood look. Quieter may win out on that one though. I'd like to keep both but 4 cars is too much. Hmmm, maybe the bug...............

you know what i'm not a big 240d fan but in this case, given it's a euro, nice clean engine bay, and if it drives well, i say sell the 300cd with the steering wheel, make your money and make off like a bandit with a 240d. you'd be 'making off' like a slow bandit, but hey, you get there in style, so...

Good choice, thats a mighty fine looking Euro 240 and a lot less to fix down the road without all the power and "auto" stuff. Rear head rests? I haven't seen those in a W123, nice. I like driving my 240D, it does have a lighter feel and just more fun to drive than the 617 TD even though they are both manual.

I'm getting used to the 240 around town. I won't be able to get used to being passed on the freeway though. I need another gear! A different driving style has to be used around here in LA. It's all about slow & smooth. You won't be getting to the next light in a hurry anyway so just cruise along and hit the next light running, and so on..........
I haven't heard anything from the alleged new owner. Who knows, I might not have to decide after all if this keeps up.
