(More) W123 300D tachometer questions

Sorry folks but here is another tachometer question.

I've been through the links on this thread made by whunter:-

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=247338&highlight=diesel+tachometer

and I've now understand that there are different pin types... and so you then need to combine these with different amplifiers and plugs...

But will a W124 tachometer fit in a W123 cluster?

Sorry I've never seen one in real life so I can't tell!

Is there a part number on the tach you're inquiring about?
As you may know, there were many 124's.

Well no...

Sorry I'm being a bit clandestine about this.

What I'd ideally like is a W123 300D tachometer for my instrument panel that looks like the real thing but in fact (underneath) it is as modern as it could be. My problem is that to get hold of the original I need to get the whole system - wires and everything. I've only got the really big clock (that doesn't work too well). Most original systems that I've come across are either incomplete, overpriced, or not working.

So step one - I'm looking for a tachometer gauge that looks like the original that won't cost as much as W123 one.

Wow now there's a tempting offer - postage to Europe, however, often kills the deal. I'll send you a PM!
