82/83 240D transmission
I'm new to the forum and am looking at a 82/83 240D with 178,000 miles on it. The automatic transmission doesn't shift at all. Wondered if this car would be salvageable. With the engine running I can feel a light engagement and sometimes the car lurches a little bit but there is no forward or rearward motion at all even under engine rev. Easy fix? Terrible Fix? Is it worth the $600-800 I could probably get this car for? BTW the body has issues but definitely not a rust bucket. Thanks for the responses.

It's cheap
But not cheap enough. The way it is, it's a parts car. If you can't get it for $250.00 or $300.00, let them keep it. That is what I think.

Yep sure did- checked all the fluids. The transmission fluid had a red hue to it and didn't smell burnt. It was the correct amount according to the dipstick.

Not sure if you can check a non functioning transmissions oil level in one of these. I might add a quart of transmission fluid to see if there is any difference. I seriously doubt it would case any problem at this point.
