Autopart stores oil filter options

Forgive me, I do not intend this to be a oil filter war thread.

I would like to know what is the best oil filter that I can buy locally at either autozone, advance auto, oreilly's, carquest, or napa.

I've searched this forum and have come to the conclusion that Purolator, STP, and Fram are to be avoided? Looks like my options may be Napa Gold and Wix?

I have no idea what filters are available at Carquest. Their website stinks and I have not called them.

I ordered a Mann filter for my last oil change but would prefer not to order online this time.

Is ordering online really the only wise decision?

I just order 3-5 online at once. When my stock starts getting low, order another 3-5.

Also doing it this way saves shipping as I can always find a couple of other things I need when I order my filters.

Napa carries the Mann filters.

Fram oil filters have a bad reputation generally speaking due to their use of economy construction materials in their US made spin-on filters. I am not sure that that means anything when it comes to the imported 617 diesel filter element. The Fram CH2930 filters that I have encountered were all made in Turkey and appeared to be of excellent quality. I would avoid anything made in India, regardless of the name on the box.

Hey, What the heck, I'll go out on the limb here. Use any filter you want but change it regularly. The pick two comes to mind (Cheap, Reliable, Available). Any brand named filter will meet/exceed the manufactures specifications. But the important thing is to change it regularly. STP/FRAM/PURALATOR/MANN it doesn't matter they filter the oil. They meet the manufactures specifications. Oh did I mention change the oil and filter regularly. I wonder what parts they have in other countries and the quality there?

I personally don't like bugs and pebbles in my oil filter, even when they do meet the manufacturer's spec's.

Tell us, bobo, do you know how many yellow jackets are permitted per filter?

All of them. The wrapping media keeps them in place. I like the purring/buzzing sound of my OM602. Also you know chips run on smoke. Let the smoke out they stop working. Hmmm..

Honestly read bobistheoilguy for everything on oil filters. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/

From my experience, Hastings are very good, followed by Wix (O'Riely's carries Wix) and the NAPA Gold. These should be available locally if you do not want to order on line. Mann are top of the line, though, for your particular car. Fram and Purolator
are just average, at best.

Seriously, It depends on how much you want to spend. You can get them from NAPA from $10-15 dollars. Does one that cost 50% more do a 50% better job. That's why I recommend change it often and use a properly rated diesel oil. Buy local. Support a local store. LOL.

Hastings aren't good

Can't be, cause that Hastings guy never shaves. Autozone carries Bosch, only German bumble bees in their filters and never no stones.

The Bosch filters that I have looked at lately were from India.

Bosch not only has them made in India but also Korea. Dont know how good they are.
If you have the time, when you change it, cut the can part open on the old one to see what they provided you with.

Oh, for about 35 years now I been using whatever oil/oil filter was on sale and never experienced a oil or filter related problem neither will you. Just change the oil and filter at the correct interval and you'll be fine
