Exhaust leak 606

In the picture I put a red circle around the crack that is leaking. The picture is from above. The exhaust manifold connects to this piece, wraps around the transmission dip stick tube then goes under the block. I don't know what this part is called or if its hard to replace or not. Any input would be appreciated.

My EPC login is not working to look up this part, I have sent an email asking for help so I can get back in.

Looks like a pain to replace. If it were my car, I'd give some JB Weld a try before trying to replace it.

That thought has been going through my head as well. I guess I will give into it as it does look like a pain.

Worth a try though to check and see if someone tacked this I guess.

Ok I am now changing this exhaust gas recirculation pipe that runs from the manifold to the egr below the intake. I disconnected the clamp on the manifold side and the piece from the crack (pictured above) to the manifold just fell off.

I have ordered the replacement pipe from MB and it is on its way from Germany-$410 later. After disconnecting the other side from the intake and a bolt holding the pipe, I still don't know how to get this thing out. The pipe moves a little from side to side but I just don't want to give it a yank and risk breaking something else. This pipe runs behind the block against the firewall.

The picture shows the each side, in the second picture you can only see the lip on the manifold where this pipe is suppose to connect as that piece fell off.

Might want to look into removing the EGR completely, since all it's doing for you is coking your prechambers and intake ports. It's a little more complex on the electronically-controlled OM606 than my mechanical one, but I think there is a way to rig a diode into the circuit so the ECU thinks the EGR is still working.

They just started smog checking diesels in CA this year, so I am not sure I can get away with the EGR delete. I passed my first check last month. I would hate to plug this and then find out I cannot pass smog. Anyone passed smog with this delete in CA?

I did the EGR delete on my TDI years ago and it worked great, but that was the good old days before checks...

anyone have any advice on taking this pipe out?

I get the whole EGR delete thing, been there done that. But for my current situation I need to put a new pipe in.

My injectors are back from the shop all nice and shinny so when I get this pipe from MB this week I will have to tackle this job.

How much is in the way of pulling the pipe up between the head and firewall? Looks like there's a coolant pipe in the way. Maybe some wires. How about going aft over the bell housing?

Let me know if it's obvious I've never touched a 606.

Anyone have a FSM?

Not much in the way, a coolant line is there but it should move around it. When I look behind the head it appears that you can just pull the line up, but it feels like something is holding when you try and move it up.

My plan is to wait until the new one gets here so I can see if there is a bolt hole or something I can not see holding it. I guess I was hoping someone had tackled this for some advice.
