Squeak when turning right? (85 300D)

I've noticed a quiet squeak when turning my wheel right, it sounds like it is coming from my left front wheel. It only happens when turning right, turning left does not make the sound. This may be related, but my steering wheel cants very slightly (1-2 inches) to the left when driving, even when going straight. My alignment is perfect, any ideas?

You've got two problems there:-

1) Your steering wheel wasn't positioned properly when the alignment was done
2) You've got your squeak coming from the front left hand wheel.

I don't think the two are related.

Could the squeak be power steering related?

How would I know if it is power steering related?

My steering is moderately tight, not much play at all (1-2 inches). I changed the filter and fluid about 1500 miles ago.

Thanks Army!

Have you ever heard that "classic" screech that you get when some inexperienced drivers hold the steering on full lock when trying to park? Well it is like that - but as you've quite recently changed the fluid and filter I guess that rules out the easy check.

Take a look at the condition of the rubber covers on the ball joints. There is a lower one and an upper one. And whilst you are down there have look for anything else that might be catching or rubbing.

If you put your car on a level surface - and it must be level because this is potentially dangerous - you can set the front wheels on some slip plates:-

You can then move the front wheels quite easily

But be careful you can quite easily push the car off of the slip plates - which I why I recommend using quite thin slip plates so the car doesn't have far to fall.

It might seem a lot of fuss and bother to make up some slip plates but I've found them to be quite useful.

For example:-

Draining power steering with out mess turkey basters etc etc

And now detecting squeaks!

Thanks, I will check that out this weekend, I don't think it is front suspension related, I just had the lower ball joints replaced, I will look at the uppers though.

... JUST had the lower ball joints replaced...
what brand were they? did you look under the boot before installation to verify they were greased?

X2
I have always put extra grease in joints when replacing.
You could try spraying a little oil on any rubber bushes as well.
