How do you remove tranny rear support adapter?

Seems I read on here that back nut on the tranny rear support was a 30mm deep well but I can't find the thread again. And thats the least of the problem- the 300SD adapter looks like it requires some special tool to remove the nut. Does anyone know the tools needed.....722.3, one speedo mechanical, one electric.

Er hi netboy...

I'm not sure which bit you mean. Do you mean the actual mount that holds the transmission to the chassis? (Sometimes referred to as an engine mount)

Or

Do you mean the nut on the output shaft?

The rear tranny mount should come out with four 14mm bolts and either a 17mm or 19mm main bolt through the mount. I think we're talking about different things here

I think he wants to remove the nut that holds the 3 bolt drive shaft coupler on the back of the transmission. One version is a hex nut, the other uses a special four pronged gland nut. both have an area that gets peened down for retention.

4x 17 for the crossmember to body, 2x 13 for xmember to mount, 1x19 mount to trans. That can be a real PITA to get a hold on.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, Ive spent the last 2 day in the garage or researching the forum. LutzTD is correct in that its the nut that holds the adapter on the shaft at the aft of the tranny. I found a local guy here that has the special tool required for removal. I'll have to take both trannies to him for the swap.

Presumably he's just swapping tailpieces for the speedo pickup.

Original 83 300d 722.315 died. Found a 81 300sd 722.303 with a locked up engine. Speed cable pickups are different so I need to swap rear supports.

Got a local shop to swap rear supports for $20. It took him 5 minutes, off and on, money well spent. Tranny all but fell in place except for aligning torque converter holes. New tranny runs good, except it shifts hard into 2nd, but I'm using the original valve body and it shifted hard with the old tranny. Just playing around with the fine tunes. Adjusted bowden cable, fixed vac leak, vacuum to 14, tweeked VCV to 6 in HG at 10mm from stop. I'm going to run this car for a few hundred miles and change the filter again because of metal shavings. Flushed whole system clean, I hope. I will put another valve body in then to see if it shifts ok, if it doesn't I will Superior Kit it.
Paid $500 for 83 300d w/268k with a bad tranny. Had new tires, and one new trans axles, and brake lines. The A/C blows snow. Tranny cost me $86 from PAP. I'll have $900 in it before shes a cruiser. As always, the info on here was crucial.
